Hi all,
I'm helping a friend build a new PC, but want to ensure that all the parts I have chosen for him are compatible - We've had a couple of bumps in the road and I just want to confirm that I'm not missing something obvious as it is my first AM5 build - (I've not listed the drives as they're most certainly compatible!)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8400F
Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming B650M Plus WiFi
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 5200Mhz 32GB Kit 2x16
GPU: MSI Ventus X2 RTX 4060
PSU: Gigabyte UD 750M

Thnaks in advance.

Side Question: is Corsair Vengeance Black DDR5 (PC5-41600) 5200Mhz Also compatible?

As mickyflinn has already said - looks like that board will support a BIOS update even without a CPU present.

I typically check the support page for the motherboard for CPU/RAM support. I see the CPU is listed on a BIOS version released Oct 2023 and the memory I believe is listed.

You can filter/search for the RAM support there. I'm not sure on the exact timings for those RAM modules, but I'm guessing they are KF552C40BBK2-32 (part number)
Hi Nade,
The part number is KF552C36BBEAK2-32 which I believe is compatible?

Edit: Doesn't appear to be listed, but I think the website has listed the part # wrong.

Any reason for chosing this CPU?

The Ryzen 5 7600 Looks better to me, higher clock speed double the L3 cache and onboard graphics, it does cost a bit more though.
Parts availability. My friend isn't in the UK and has a poor selection of available - and expensive - hardware.

We have tried setting this up again today, and it's once again ended in failure.

Using the above specs; the bios was flashed to 1807 - listed as supporting the CPU - and we left the machine on for around 20 minutes after powering on 'jumping' power SW.

The things we have now attempted:

Installation in an MSI B650M-Pro WiFi with Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5200Mhz CL20 2x16 : Failure
Installation in an Asus TUF Gaming B650M Plus WiFi with Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5200Mhz CL20 2x16: Failure
Installation in an Asus TUF Gaming B650M Plus WiFi with Kingston Fury Beast 5200Mhz 32GB Kit 2x16: Failure
Installation with single sticks of each memory in each board: Failure
Installation of DRAM into different slots of each board: Failure
Installation with 1807 BIOS in Asus TUF Gaming B650M Plus WiFi: Failure

Both boards have displayed CPU RED LED and DRAM Yellow LED on installation, although the Asus board only did this AFTER 1807 was installed successfully.

We have checked, rechecked and triple checked connections, PSU connectors and pins.

I've been building PC's myself since the Phenom days, and have never come across a problem like this that I couldn't fix.

EDIT: With a single stick of memory, CPU/ GPU installed, the Asus is now flagging "BOOT" and "VGA" on the motherboard.

Did you rename the bios before updating?
Yes - there was biosrenamer included in the Asus download. I ran it and it changed the bios name automatically.

Here is what we are now getting - CPU, GPU, 1 stick of Kingston installed. Boot light is actually yellow, I'm told.

It's working and the solution was... frankly ridiculous.

We've been trying to get it working all day, and changing the HDMI cable in the back of the GPU from the 1080p monitor we were using to a newly purchased HDTV and - bam! - everything lit up. Installed Windows and drivers, connected it back to the old monitor and lo and behold, it works. I genuinely cannot believe that this was the solution for us, but EVERYTHING suddenly didn't have a problem any more.

I'm going to go and have a stiff drink or five.

Thank you all for the help, and I hope this helps someone else, probably years from now.
