Found these in the garden. Any idea what they are? Could they be truffles?

Looks like the beginning of an organic alien invasion. You should:
- cover generously in petrol
- gently light a match and drop upon said petrol
- simmer for a good 10 minutes
- pour acid on the warm charred remains
- lightly cover the acid with some more petrol
- light another match, dropping it slowly onto the hybrid petrol/acid mix

And then maybe shoot it a few times.

Or maybe lightly cover with salt and serve with a mixed salad of lettuce and beetroot.

So there is such a thing call King Alfred Cakes, the photos look like what the OP's showing. Coal Fungus for anyone more common to that name. Heard of it, never seen one.

truffles grow underground and are dry, not glossy like in your pic. What you have looks like elephant ****.

Plus they are on decaying wood, so it's deffo KAC.

Great for sticking in garden bonfires. Keeps em burning for hours.
