Are torrent sites still a thing?

My wife submitted her thesis a few weeks ago for her degree. It's not even been marked yet. Someone else has quoted, word for word, one of her paragraphs on her university forums. The potential for this to disqualify my wife is very real and something we need to sort out.

Apparently her thesis was found on a torrent site, I've not used one of these for years and all the usuals are offline or blocked. I need to see if this has leaked from the university and if so, action it.

Are these sites still a thing? If so, anyone got any suggestions on where I can look? Happy to do it in PMs for the obvious reasons.

This is what's worrying me, I've done quite a bit of digging already and as you say, they seem to be prolific in academic circles. If her thesis gets thrown out after 6 years of hard work I'd be pretty annoyed.

Exactly, it could only have been a leak from the uni which is why I'm trying to find it myself.

While I understand that this thread has innocent reasons for existing, to answer it properly we would need to name places that are not legal.
