Are Ubisoft in Trouble?

Think they really screwed up on The Division franchise personally - that could easily be a good money maker for them.

I watched a a youtuber play this for first time in 2025 last week and got nostalgic - I used to play this with some guys from this forum.

He also explained the 9 currency systems and I laughed at how it was basically the precursor to all microtransaction mobile games lol...

People hate on Ubisoft, but I enjoy a lot of their games. Anno and AC franchises in particular. They have a huge workforce too. It’s not good for gamers losing another company, we have too few games available as it is.

Ubisoft and I'd argue most big AAA publishers have been in trouble for years, they just refused to change direction while nearing points of no return.

These the same execs that said “gamers should get used to not owning their games”?

Sounds they might need to get used to not having jobs.
The exact words were: "One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. That's the consumer shift that needs to happen." https://www.thegamer.com/ubisoft-pl...o-get-comfortable-with-not-owning-your-games/ | It was taken somewhat out of context as he was referring to Ubi's sub service and how consumers had gotten used to not owning other forms of media (telly series/films), but had yet to get there with games. It was clearly the direction that he wanted the industry to go in, however. He said the quiet part out loud and really shouldn't have. Idiot.

The 20,000 or so of the rest of the workforce didn’t say that though. Let’s not all jump around in joy of all those people potentially losing their jobs, and by extension the many gaming contractors too. It also doesn’t bode well for any of us who own Ubisoft games. It’s another reason I’m holding off on the new Anno game, it may receive no further support going forward.

Do we know which other games were cancelled?

I genuinely hate Ubisoft even though The Division is one of my favourite games ever (I know), but I would be sad if the Splinter Cell game was one of the cancelled projects.

I don't want to see Ubisoft go bust, but if the quality of games continued as it has then it would probably be for the best.

They've just made excuses for years of terrible games, a restructure and willingness to correct failures should have been done years ago.

With the state of PC hardware affordability, probably not a bad idea for them to cut their losses on some of the more demanding titles but I just don't understand the Sands of Time remake cancellation as it would surely have been a easy memberberries purchase for many. Unless it was just in a bad way and not worth the effort to fix.

At times like this, why is Yves Guillemot not stepping down as CEO. He's been at the head of the company for decades, and when you're going through the good times you give him credit. But I just read that Ubisofts share price is down 95% from ATH, so he's clearly on a sinking ship and rather than bail and hope someone else can save it, it seems like he's persistent it making sure it sinks.

Make another Far Cry or Assassin's Creed game! We need Far Cry 7!

I stopped buying their games over a decasde ago now I think when they decided to force uplay on us. Just release your games on steam properly without that crap and stop copy pasting your games and come up with something new fresh and innovative.

I personally would not shed a tear if they disappeared. Feel the same way about EA and i used to love buying their games.
