Are Ubisoft in Trouble?

Think they really screwed up on The Division franchise personally - that could easily be a good money maker for them.

I watched a a youtuber play this for first time in 2025 last week and got nostalgic - I used to play this with some guys from this forum.

He also explained the 9 currency systems and I laughed at how it was basically the precursor to all microtransaction mobile games lol...

People hate on Ubisoft, but I enjoy a lot of their games. Anno and AC franchises in particular. They have a huge workforce too. It’s not good for gamers losing another company, we have too few games available as it is.

Ubisoft and I'd argue most big AAA publishers have been in trouble for years, they just refused to change direction while nearing points of no return.

Ubi seem to be in trouble because their management tells gamers what they want instead of listening to them, then they wonder why their games aren't selling.

The exact words were: "One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. It was clearly the direction that he wanted the industry to go in, however. He said the quiet part out loud and really shouldn't have. Idiot.

The 20,000 or so of the rest of the workforce didn’t say that though. Let’s not all jump around in joy of all those people potentially losing their jobs, and by extension the many gaming contractors too. It also doesn’t bode well for any of us who own Ubisoft games. It’s another reason I’m holding off on the new Anno game, it may receive no further support going forward.
