Are Virgin capping me?

This has happened quite a few times now, when im downloading large files (in this case, the EVE installer) it will be downloading fine at around 1.5mb/sec then suddenly and randomly take a massive hit down to 300kb/sec max. I also get this when downloading games through steam.

Im on the broadband L package, which is said to have "unlimited downloads" but I can clearly see the download tries to go over 300kb/sec then immediately goes back down. Internet browsing is still fine its just the download that slows.

Generally caps in place will only be through peak time. Have you tried the same download at e.g. 12am (or later)?

sounds like they are, iirc they cap after about 1.5gb from from 10mb to 300kb for about 4 hours, best time to download is in the morning when i have not seen any capping

That makes sense, it probably is around 1.5gb before it slows down. Ok cheers I shall avoid peak time downloading in future!

Yeah you can try... but the periods which are considered peak time are pretty broad now.
