are we allowed to talk about rooting?

i have an i5800 (galaxy apollo) i have used superoneclick root, which says it worked, but i get a cp : write error when it tried to install busybox, so although i have superuser no apps that require rooting work.

Might've not been rooted properly. Did you reboot after the rooting? Unroot it with the superoneclick, then try rooting again?

Reboot and try again possibly.

How are you trying to install Busybox?

Try installing Titanium Backup (free) and then hit the Problems button to see what it says.

i downloaded busybox (not sure if it was the right one) from google play and it just fails on installation.

have tried rebooting several times, even factory reset the phone and tried again, still the same.

when i launch titanium backup it says 'unable to obtain root privilages'

hit the problems button and get :
first please ensure that you have rooted your phone.
if you need more info look at wiki
if it hanges hit preferences and set app processing to auto
you can also upgrade superuser if needed

right i upgraded superuser, still no further forward. downloaded a different busybox, which say 'your device is rooted' hit install, it downloaded the files fine, but now its just not doing anything other than the little circle spinning at the top and the ads changing :(

ok restarted phone, then when launching busybox i get ask if i want to grant it superuser rights, i allow. it then fails install and says try a different version, so i did, and it does the same :(

it say unroot successful i think. have tried different superoneclick versions but still the same. so factory reset phone, but now its mega slow :( and wont connect to superoneclick. so now im doing all the phone (samsung) updates and see if that helps.

Is it network branded? Have a look here

ok sorted it. i deleted the thinkdroid app from the system folder as i wont use it. that free'd up 5MB which then meant when i rooted the phone it installed busybox at the same time. restarted phone and titan backup works fine now :)

so now im all rooted, what apps do people recommend, im new to android (if you hadnt guessed by my lack of getting root to work :o)

AdAway, Titianium Backup, ClockSync, DroidSheep, LCD Density Modder, Sixaxis Controller - ROOT specific apps that are quite nice.

You should take a look at the top paid apps and top free apps on the Play Store to get a gauge at other awesome apps.

AirDroid is pretty hot.

I don't know much about your phone but what OS are you running. I believe 4.0.4 requires a newer version of Superuser. I'd try find it but its difficult over my phone...
