People often say it, but it's something I wasn't convinced on, until I started drinking whiskey.

Everything just went to excrement. Definitely affected my judgement (more so than other drinks), level of aggression, happiness and memory - not in general of course, just during the night. I never used to forget what happened on a night out until the night involved whiskey.

Yes, binge drinking doesn't help either, but I'm definitely more 'normal' just drinking pints of Carlsberg for instance.

Some people I know stay away from Red Bull and vodka because of how they act when they drink it.

But alcohol is alcohol, no?

Surely it's just dependant on how much you drink, and how quickly.

I've never understood the whole "mixing drinks" problem, you're still ingesting the same alcohol, why should it affect you differently?

I stopped getting drunk on Beer because the hangovers were unreal, if I want to get drunk I'll do it on spirits, yeah I still feel rough in the morning but I can at least function beyond grunting and throwing up every time I open my eyes.

Never noticed any difference in the actual effects of drunkenness of the two though.

I do not drink rum because it turns me into a homicidal nutter.....I don't know why, but a few rums makes me as belligerant as Ghengis Khan with a hatful of wasps....

Even if we view alcohol as all the same, combining alcohol with a stimulant is definitely not the same as just taking alcohol.

As for the Whiskey thing, it has approximately 8-10x the concentration of alcohol compared to Carlsberg so assuming you don't water it down a lot as mentioned it is likely to make you more dehydrated. To make a fair(er) comparison, for every double whiskey you drink, also drink a pint of water or non-alcoholic mixer.

Not really. There are drinks I avoid because I can't stomach them (Sambuca being the main one - end up with the spits) but I can't say that I'm much of a different drunk depending on what I drink.

Weirdly, and the reason for this isn't fully understood, diluting your alcohol actually increases the rate of alcohol absorption.

Some very responsible and sensible answers here.

It's something I'm quite concerned about (as I never experienced memory loss before) but I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that it's related to the rate of consumption vs the concentration of the drink i.e. I seem to drink a double JD and coke as fast as I'd drink a pint of Carlsberg, just because it's what I'm used to.

I guess it's about pacing yourself, but that's something I've never been good at. Maybe I just need to stick to lager or gain some self-control.

My brother is an **** when he has drank bourbon

i dont think any drinks make me agressive i usualy get druunk have a laugh and go home

I usually spend the whole night on red wine, sometimes beer and occassionally rum. A week and a half in Cuba turned me on the the magic of a mojito, and the passion of a piña colada.

Cider makes me randy, too much whisky and I get a little agressive unlike with other spirits.

I'm not much of a drinker tho tbh, takes far too much of it for me to start getting even tipsy.

Thats not to say I dont enjoy a drink for reasons other than getting tipsy or drunk, brandy in some tea is nice as is some brandy and ginger wine if out somewhere cold.

Definitely different for me. Bourbon makes me a happy, amicable drunk, same with cider for the most part. Beer can make me argumentative, belittling and quite aggressive. Beer, especially Stella (as if to promote the stereotype), gives me a drunk feeling that promotes a strange pressurised feeling around the head/brain. That seems to fuel aggression, something I don't get with whiskey.

well RED BULL and vodka is an easy enough thing to explain.

Drinking 12 pints will make me fall asleep and be very docile and placid

Drinking half a bottle of scotch will make me talk for hours and mess about.

I've never felt the urge to be violent while drunk, Violent drunks make me sad.

I stopped drinking whiskey years ago. Basically I become a total **** if I drink it.

Can drink anything else, just that one type of drink sends me a bit loopy.

Whiskey is called firewater for a reason. One of my mates is the most placid and friendly drunk you'll ever meet unless he drinks whiksey. The last time he drank it, he was barred for throwing bar stools at the staff.

Same for me. I'm fine on anything but whiskey and cider. With either of those I get quite lairy and mouthy. I avoid them now.

Stowford Press cider gives me the serious horn. To the point where I can hardly control it.

I'm a good natured drunk whatever I drink except for one thing.

Tequila and I do not get on in any way, shape or form and I haven't touched a drop in probably 20 years.
