Are you allowed to drive round with no wingmirrors?

but driving without a drivers side wingmirror won't pass an MOT? You sure it's legal?

Im probably ignorant, not trying to say you're wrong just interested :)

Well classic cars get through MOT's without any fine, don't think its a different rule for them.

Eh? Can't remember the last time I saw a "classic" car with no mirrors. Even 1920's cars have mirrors!

You can get away without a passenger side mirror, but it's an MOT failure not to have a driver's side one, so technically you're not roadworthy.

Usually, it is. Cars after a certain date MUST have certain things fitted, which is why for example no side repeaters on a 1994 car is illegal, yet not a problem on a 1955 car.

Here is a Triumph 1500, roughly 1970 time.

my understanding was that you needed to have two mirrors in total for rearview.

So if you didnt have a rearview mirror or it was blocked you could get by on your sidemirrors.

Yeah I will still have all the others, just that I am swapping my drivers door over so wanted to know how urgent it is to get the wingmirror back on.

You need a off-side (drivers side) door/wing mirror and one of either interior mirror or nearside door/wing mirror.

From MOT Manual:
Obligatory mirrors are
a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the
drivers seat), or

b, an exterior mirror fitted to the
nearside fleft hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or

c. an interior mirror.

from what i have been told, if it was fitted as a manufacture fitment it has to be still there to pass an MOT, so if thats right then it isnt legal to drive without them (both sides) as its an MOT failure

(but like i said i was told this so it may not be true)
