Are you allowed to.......

No promotion of business interests
You may not promote any website or business you have a financial or other interest in, or use the popularity of this community to help build one of your own. The forums are here to allow people to freely share knowledge, not provide them with personal financial gain, or free advertising.

Ignore arknor, of course you are. Go a head, please tell us about your company and the services you offer. :)

If I were you I'd email a mod with whatever your thread was going to say. Let them decide if it's okay.

It just seems unfair that people can come on and in a roundabout way promote a company that is known to them and they earn from it. When the fact is, If I was to supply a service to members on here, not only would they get it cheaper, I could personally make sure it's done to an immaculate standard.

I earn and they benefit. Everyone's a winner.

Rules need changing imo.

You should be able to post about a company in the HTML,Graphics and Programming section of the forums as that rule quoted above doesn't seem to apply in there.

Just make sure you thinly disguise your thread in a kind of "Hai guyz, can someone give me feedback on this website of mine?" sort of fashion.

So you want OcUK to promote your business free of charge?

No one seemed to mind when the guy who makes robots/has a laser cutter (sorry I can't remember his name) promotes his business and website on here.

It's a TRAP!

But you're allowed to ask for slogan / name ideas for your business, which the thread itself promoted... :p

Remember our conversation about changing your name to Buzz Lightyear?;)

Noooo please don't. :(

Agree about this. :D

To be fair there are a few forums I'm on that have sections, where members can post what they do for a living, with the services they offer. Then if they are in the area of another forum member and they require said service then it's easy for them to get in touch, get a quick and reliable service. It seems to work well. :)

It's a tough one, as if they allow one, what's to stop individuals to register with the sole intent on promoting their business interests whilst moonlighting as a member?

How do you differentiate between genuine members who wish to share their services with a community they feel bound to and those who just see it as an open opportunity? You can't really. Unless of course there was a section similar to the MM, but that brings with it a whole new moderation issue - who's to look after that?

What is it you do out of interest. Obviously avoid naming your company or website, etc. I'm just curious.
