i have been looking at clips of this comedy on youtube but can't find any scenes where mr humphries says "i'm free", did he not say this in every episode? thanks.

try "Up Captain Peacock" - apparently it's the first words of the episode

Peacock: "Mr. Humphries, are you free?"
Humphries: "I'm busy pricing my ties, Captain Peacock."
Peacock: "The gentleman wishes to try on a dress."
Humphries: "I'm free!"

yes you are right pellet i found the words on that episode at 13mins 56 seconds, many thanks indeed (episode 'up captain peacock').

12 seconds in, "I'm very free":

The PC brigade wouldn't like this lot :p:

The late and great John Inman. :D

many thanks these are really great clips, they don't make them like that any more, sadly, will be ordering the dvd boxset of are you being served soon. What was Grace and Favour like? Never watched it myself

pellet you have made my day by finding the right scene. i am big john inman fan. I also liked terry and june, fresh fields and don't wait up. i bet there aren't many people who remember don't wait up. there was another show called root into europe with george cole who calls his wife "mrs root" in the show.

He said it in every episode!

I preferred young Mr. Graces' secretaries to Wendy Richard.
