Are you going to change your WFH routine when the clocks change?

I don't know about anyone else but I'm dreading the clocks changing. I hate being stuck in the house all day, we make an effort to go for a short walk before lunch and then usually either go for a run, or find some other excuse to nip out once we're done with work (before dinner).

Running in the dark is no fun, and half the point is to actually get out and see some daylight. So we're thinking of struggling up early in the morning and running/walking before we start work. Then we can have a short walk around lunchtime. I'm really not a morning person so am not looking forward to this :o

I don't understand people that just get up, sit at their PC all day and don't even venture outside. It makes me feel horrible and sedentary

I'm too wondering what to do now the nights are getting dark, I found for the first couple of months of "lockdown" I wasn't really getting out except the odd trip to the supermarket. At some point in June I decided I needed to change, so started going walking after work - this was great when it was nice and sunny and could be out until 9 and still have daylight (walking around Greenwich park or along the thames of an evening is lovely), at the moment with it getting dark by 7 and just generally being gloomy after 5 most days it hasn't been as fun to go out for 5-7 mile walks.

I have also been doing 45 mins on the static bike at lunch times, so could swap it around and go for say 3 miles at lunch, then do an hours bike in the evenings, as I want to ensure I still get outside time but keep up some form of exercise, just not sure my bum can take an hour straight on that bike I have.

I am still ensuring on a saturday and sunday I am getting up and out of the house in the mornings so that I get some daylight hours out, but again when it was sunny and warm I would drive to Southend, Margate etc and walk along the sea front, or go to Greenwich park or Danson park for the greenery, or walk the Thames, but these just dont have the same appeal when its grey and gloomy.

Currently not working BUT if i was, i would definitely go outside for during my lunch to break up the time, bit of exercise, change of scenery and all that. Surely its better for your mental health this way. :)

Probably wont change too much. Currently start work around 8:30 go for a lunchtime walk around 1 where we walk around the local fields/river then once we finish around 4:30/5 we either go for a longer ~8/9 mile walk or bike ride.

Though the walking in the evenings hasn't been too pleasant as it gets dark in the woodland bits we walk in. Though last night we were lucky enough to watch a Tawny Owl (he was a loud boy) sit in the trees for a while so that made it worthwhile

Definitely. Very important.

then once we finish around 4:30/5 we either go for a longer ~8/9 mile walk or bike ride.
Yeah my other issue is I work a lot with west coast US so I can get really busy after 4pm when they all wake up. Even finishing at 6.30pm is hard sometimes.

Maybe I should view this as a positive way to make myself a morning person, lol :o

Oh yeah that changes things for sure!

I like your optimism but no one really want's to be a morning person! Even though I'm a morning person I really miss the days in my late teens/early twenties when I'd be able to sleep in until midday. Lucky If I'm still sleeping after 7:30 these days

To be honest my working patterns have become increasingly more flexible since wfh. I tend to log on just before eight and log off around 4 but if I feel I need a late start I'll take it, equally if I need an hour or so during the day I'll block out my calendar and work it back at the end of the day, I still tend to work above my contracted hours slightly, more so when it's busy and the outcomes are the same regardless of when I'm doing the work (within reason).

In terms of the clocks changing i think I will probably become a bit more stringent around making sure I take a decent lunch break, a lot of the time I work through.

Yeah going to start earlier. Hate clock change.

Its getting darker in the evening.. Let's make it even darker.

I finally have lights for my bike. Even still. I don't mind riding back from exploring in the dark. But leaving in the dark is no fun

I got out of any sort of routine when my wife went back to the office and my daughter back to nursery full time a few months ago. I have flexi time so can start and finish whenever and it's been very hard to keep up any sort of pattern. Especially as some weeks there's a lot of downtime when I can't get in contact with the people I need to.

I only really go to the gym or dog walks and it's getting seriously monotonous now. I miss the office.

I doubt much will change once the clocks go back other than I'll carry on being in no routine :D

Unless the weather is completely awful, or its one of those days where I just can't escape, I make sure to go out during the day time for a circa 45 minute walk. I regard it as no different to going out for lunch, the gym or smoke breaks or whatever else people working in an office do. I'm working more than enough in hours to cover it should anyone ever try and be anal enough to question me not being instantly available on skype.

Clocks changing won't change the routine.

I've been running after work, and loved doing it in the sunshine. I'm able to still run on our local park for a bit longer before it will be dark, and as this park has no lighting, I soon wont be able to continue.

I'm going to see what it is like running next to roads, as at least I will be able to see, but the run definitely wont have as good of a view!

I can do a little run in my lunch break, but won't be able to do a full run within an hour.

We won’t have to think about it for too much longer: doesn’t the UK’s time zone change to BST permanently in March?

I've been working from home a little over 15 years and make sure I get outside a lot. In the winter WFH is better than commuting in many ways as at least you aren't sat on train or car in dark. I have dogs which of course really helps but also often walk with the kids on the school run. I also often do some excercise in the day, whether it is gym or some paddle boarding or kayaking.
