Just a mini rant really but I just wanted to show you what came through the letterbox today. Basically I live up north and my folks live down south so rather than me go all the way there to pick up my phone lead I figured they could sent it to me via mail. So they sent it up on Friday the 8th in a standard envelope with three first class stamps on there (just to be sure but having worked at the post office I know this is enough). Anyways it turned up today, 4 working days later and this is what I find...

So the larger envelope is what the original envelope came in. Once opened there's the envelope my folks sent up, stamps still attached but a tear in the right hand corner and what a surprise, the contents are gone. That's it however, no note or letter to say what's happened, just one blank envelope and the original my folks sent.

Anyway, I'm not really fussed about the contents being that I can easily get another one, just wanted to share really. So not to name any names, for the purpose of this thread we'll call them "regal post", I don't think I'll bother next time. Anyone else had problems like this? Thanks for reading, apologies for the essay. Oh and sorry for the image quality, taken with a webcam, a very poor webcam.

It should have come in a bag with stickers on it saying "damaged or missing itmes" etc. I would contact them and go for compensation.

The chances are its gone through a machine to be sorted and the contents pushed out as it travelled around the machine between the belts. A jiffy bag should have been used.

However, its been damaged and it should have been wrapped up in a 'sorry we've damaged your item' bag with a contact number to phone if anything is missing.

The chances it has been stolen are really quite low.

Unlucky dude :-(
Just for some balance though I've gotta say that both my brother and I use Royal Mail all the time, we have sent tones of stuff simply using First Class none recorded or signed for post and luckily nothing has gone astray!!

When something like this happens it really makes you feel like lying about the contents and claiming for everything you can.

None of my family send money in birthday cards anymore because of this sort of ****.

Well I do think it takes the mick that there was no indication inside or outside as to what's gone on. I mean it's obviously been tampered with but they've not even attempted to cover their own arses which is bizarre.

OMFG yeah that's it! xD

Do you even get compensation with stamps?

And in answer to that one, when I worked at the post office, the only compensation I ever saw was the postage being refunded. Unless you paid for the services to cover the contents then you didn't have a leg to stand on in terms of compensation on your contents. Mind you I never handled that because once you handed it over to "regal post" it was their responsibility, didn't stop us on the counter getting it in the neck from customers however :/

Good try but compensation for lost items using first class mail is a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or £46, whichever is the lowest.

That's still about £43 more than the cable is actually worth, assuming it was a bog standard phone USB cable :p
