I don't know why, but I had a sudden urge to check my bank account this morning, only to see 2 payments totalling £550 being made yesterday, making we rather overdrawn, and now without any card.

I haven't used my card anywhere other than in supermarkets for the past month, and yet it still gets cloned!

So now I will be without any money until Tuesday the earliest, and I need to make a substantial payment on Monday by card that I now can't, which could have harsh knock-on effects :(

This has been happening a lot to the guys I work with lately. Mainly petrol stations and always manned by asians.

The guy I travel to work with, this month had 10 transactions of £60. All used at petrol stations and my brother in laws card was being used in mexico.

Nearly every instance I know it's suspected the card was cloned at a petrol station. I now keep £50 in my wallet at all times and pay cash for my petrol.

Yep it's cash 95% of the time here as well. Always go to the hole-in-the-wall first before buying anything, unless it's somewhere I really trust, and someone behind the desk who I trust equally.

This was on The Real Hustle about a week ago, shows how easy it is to do.

I had a couple of cards cloned recently, but that was after I used them in an ATM (admittedly at a petrol station). So even the hole-in-the-wall solution doesn't always seem to work!

NEVER use ATMs at petrol stations, if an ATM is gonna be compromised its gonna be at a pertol station. I have a few friends who have been stung in this way very recently, I would not take the chance, as above make sure you have cash on you if at all possible.

I don't mind buying things online (especially a store like overclockers for example) but even in larger stores like for example Tesco I won't use my card.

I only like using the ATM actually inside Barclays too - maybe I am paranoid, but people really in this case are out to get you!

This is disgusting. we had money taken from our bank account about a year ago now. they idiots used money to buy windows xp of all things. the downpoint in their plan is microsoft sent the copy of windows xp to our house, something to do with not being able to send the product to a different address than was on the bank account. we ended up having to send the copy of windows xp back to microsoft and got our money back

Always check ATMs to make sure there are no dodgy-looking devices that could've been added by someone to nick your card details :)

They are scum really, I hadn't used my card in a year then I get 3 payments of £50 to paddypower despite never having gambled online in my life, CC company sorted it out though.
Just shows how long ago some people may have got your details and kept them.

To add insult to injury:

I'm now heavily overdrawn.
Have many bills to pay next week.
Credit from bank will take 6-10 working day.
Yesterday I transferred £200 from paypal to my bank account to help with the bills.
Paypal cannot cancel the request.
Bank cannot see the request to cancel it.

So no I have no access to any cash £500 in total, as it's tied up in my severely overdrawn bank account!

That's harsh :( It's bad enough having a credit card cloned but at least it doesn't end up with you being in the position where you bounce a load of DD/SO's thereby damaging your credit file while some scrote lives it up on your money.

at least you got shafted by some randomer, my bank has just paid my whole Credit card debt from my debit account and refuse to put it back as I never said they could take it (I said mininum payment) and ive got the bit of paper showing it! tried to make me pay the 2.5% charge to put it back as well, told them to do one! currently sorting this out! FUN!:(

any fraud situation bank should refund your money almost immediately... or is it only my bank that does that? :) depends how long ago the transaction happened also.

here's an idea; phone the bank? they'll be very understanding.

Let hope you will not be charge overdraft fees as well..... but then again my friend was in similar situation and was charge fee, he threated to take it to newspaper, he was offered £400...

The bank is sending me a form to dispute the 2 charges and the overdraft charge as aresult of them, but it takes 6-10 days to process :(

Why not? Large stores such as Tesco usually have camera's mounted above the cashiers. And you can see exactly what they do with the card too when they put it through their till machine, or you can using the PIN device you scan your card.
