Hi,

I'll be going to Singapore in a few weeks time and also Hong Kong. I'm looking to order my first DSLR from HDEW within the next few days and I'm tempted by the following 3...

Nikon D3200 +18-55mm + 55-200mm Double Kit - £445

Nikon D5200 + 18-55mm VR Kit - £489

Nikon D5200 + 18-55 + 55-200 VR Double Kit - £575

I'll be practicing and getting to grips with the camera here for a few weeks and hopefully by the time I arrive in Singapore I'll be comfortable with the basic settings etc.

I'm keen to get plenty of photos at the zoo and on their national day with the fly by.

I very recently decided I wanted to get into photography. And with the holiday soon I've decided to ditch using the S3 phone camera and move to DSLR.

From a mate's recommendation and a little research online I decided on the D3200 double kit. But looking to get the best for my money and not too much more the D5200 with 18-55mm is tempting but will I be ok without the 55-200mm? I suspect I may need this for the animals and flyby? Or will the 18-55mm zoom be OK? Would love the D5200 double kit. Both lenses, flip out lcd, stereo audio, in built HDR etc...but the price is uncomfortable.

So which one should I buy?
Also the D3200 kit doesn't appear to have VR lenses?

Thanks :)

I'd go for the D5200 with two lenses but the 55-200mm may be a bit slow focusing for the fly-past. You might also consider the D5100 with two lenses if that's available at a good price.

Why not D5200 body only, and then a "decent" all-in-one.

I know people like to pan the super zooms, but some can be quite decent, especially compared to the kit lenses that often come with cameras.

Plus, you won't need to be messing around with changing lenses all the time.

Something like the Sigma 18-250mm macro. It's fairly light, reviews well, and is very convenient. I have the older version, as I wanted the one with OS, and have no complaints.

Thanks guys. I did consider just one all in one lens but in the end I didn't mind changing lenses and went for the D5200 and a few other things...

very nice, well done!

i especially like the castle + road one

Thanks :) That's my fave too. Was watching youtube vids by Mike Browne and thatnikonguy while I was waiting for delivery and now understood the basics of ISO, aperture and shutter speed. I've got Understanding Exposure on reservation that I will be picking up next week
