I posted recently regarding a problem with (what I believe to be) my memory. Under even medium CPU/memory intensive tasks, 50% of the time, my computer crashes and goes to a blue screen, where it notes that the phsyical memory has been dumped in order to avoid damage to my computer, along with long error codes that seem to be different every time. This has been getting more frequent in the past few months.

I use 1GB of Crucial PC2700 DDR, split over two sticks (CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3200). I took them both out this morning, tried each on all three slots. One of them work fine and booted everytime (although crashes are still happening), but the other failed to boot, with a specific 1 - 1.5 second bleep. I'm assuming this one is 'buggered'.

Can I be sure enough to buy a new set of RAM, which from previous correspondence, should be PC3200? I am planning to format and re-install my OS just to be sure it's not some crazy error on the software front but I'm unsure what action to take, so if anyone could provide any useful suggestions I'd be immensely grateful, seeing as I have an assignment due in next week!

Thanks for any help/advice!

Does memtest bring up any errors? If you could get PC3200 cheaper than PC2700 you can get it. It will simply run at a lower speed if your computer is not capable of running it at its native speed.

I'm not aware of memtest, is it an OS based program? How does it work? I've seen 1GB of Crucial Ballistix for £56, looks to be a really decent deal, what do you reckon?
