I just bought and installed an XFX 750i motherboard, to replace a board i was having problems with. I've been having problems all day trying to install vista on the system - blue screens on the setup etc. I found that the problem was my 4gb RAM, apparantly vista doesn't like more than 3gb when installing for some reason (i have the 64 bit edition).

Anyways, i found out about that problem, did a full format and clean installed, no problems. Once i got into windows i started to do the windows updates and it bluescreened again "Windows has stopped to protect the system" etc. When i restarted, windows wouldn't start because "NVstor64.sys" was missing. Did a windows repair and it worked again...for about 20 seconds. Now i get constant blue screens when i start windows, sometimes it pops up irq_is_less_or_equal but most of the time it just says windows has stopped to prevent damage.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong? I suspect my graphics card is at fault but it was working fine this morning on my old board.

The specs for my system are:

4gb (4x1gb) Corsair memory (full memtested, no problems)
500gb Samsung Spinpoint (fully scanned and diagnosed - no problems found)
Intel Q6600 Quad Core processor
XFX 750i Motherboard (latest bios and brand new)
Nividia 8800gtx 768mb graphics
Corsair 650 watt psu
Windows Vista64 Home Premium

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Sounds like you need to bump up the voltages on your NB and memory.

How does it run with just 2gb installed?

I installed all of the windows updates etc with just 2gb RAM...then i shut down and installed all 4gb. I'm still getting blue screens in windows with this amount. I checked the bios to see if it sees all 4gb and it does. Any other suggestions anyone? This is really bugging me now

The exact model of my RAM is

Corsair DDR2 CM2X1024-6400

edit: stop code is 0x0000007E (0FFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF80001C5DD11, 0xFFFFF980012EEE58, 0xFFFFF980012EE830) dunno if that means anything to anyone

Have you adjusted the volatges for your memory to 1.9v and upped the Northbridge volts a notch?

what voltage is the memory ment to have? i've got corsair memory and it's ment to have 2.1v, also as others have said bump the northbridge volts a little because your running 4 sticks it will help stablise your system and should get rid of the dreaded bsod's
