hey guys, I made a cool excel file to keep track of my finances before uni when I was in full time employment... it's got some complicated stuff that took me a while to work out and sort!!!

anyway, I didn't use it through uni as it was pointless without a regular wage...now I want to use it again but I stupidly password protected it and I have no idea what the password is! :(

i've prob got it written down somewhere but no idea where...

basically, is there anyway i can crack this password? It's excel 2003 if that helps at all... google throws up a whole load of useless results so no smart guys saying search for it..

Does anyone know an easy ish way to crack and excel password? or at least view the file somehow??

cheers!

This one works like a charm:

http://www.elcomsoft.com/aopr.html

but like the other poster, why people don't google for these solutions before coming here puzzles me frequently.

Sheer lazyness, or they don't no how to search properly. Somebody should make a "how to search google thread before you post topic". I am sure you still would get idots asking things.

Maybe they have done google searches but atleast they could say. Get someone else to do their dirty work for them!

The reason I specifically said don't just say google is BECAUSE I HAVE DONE THAT ALREADY. All I can find are shareware crap and one's that cost about $100. I don't want to pay 50 quid to open one stupid excel file.

I posted because I was hoping somehere would know a decent option that works and doesn't cost anything. The only free one I've found is total cack.

I have already posted info this in the OP so thanks for reading the post properly.

well great I've just tried that one and surprise surprise - it doesn't work. The trial version is useless and I refuse to pay for it for one stupid file.

Thats tough luck then - why do you think the solution to your mistake should be free of charge?

Guys - calm down please. :)

Firstly the OP did say he had searched Google. I think he was asking if any of us had used a password cracker that we could recommend him. Perhaps he could have made it clearer by asking for info on free ones but that doesn't give anyone the right to biting his head off. Especially if they missed the fact he had googled before posting here.

Kiss and make up? :p

Chill people, if everyone hunted down answers on google then what would be the point in having a messageboard for people to ask questions, all those spec me threads could be answered if the OPs googled for hardware comparisons but i don't see anyone taking pops at them.

Sorry Doc not got a solution for you, just thought you got a bit of a rough ride in here ;)

Edit* Dammit, beaten by the mods :p now i just look silly :D

All fair points but the OP did say that all the results on Google were useless. I pointed out one that was searchable on Google and wasn't useless.

What he really should have posted was:

"Guys, I've done something really stupid and can't be bothered paying for the right solution from <insertname>. Can anyone give me something for nothing while I sit here and make wild generalisations about the quality of my search results from Google."

Can't understand why lots of folks balk at the price of software designed to correct their mistakes or get them out of a fix. Sure there are plenty of free solutions to problems but sometimes you just have to suck it up and pay the piper.

My last word on the matter...

thanks for the backup cavalry!!! sidethink - you're solution is useless because it costs 50 quid!?!?

all i need to do is at least view the file if nothing else...

And how do you know its not his bosses personal wage file - or something much more important.

And you are now another person involved in his illegal shennanigans.

I have numerous so called password protected excel files on our network drives that contain very private data that could get people sacked, annoyed etc - most people don't know how to encrypt stuff in our place (so they just use MS passwords on everything)

If I had £1 everytime someone asked me to help them get into a file, I would be a millionaire now. The password option is there for a reason & assuming it really is his own excel file is very naive. But work away with you cracking.... just don't think the cops are going to believe your 'I read it on a forum' story when they nail you as an accessory to digital espionage...

Just a thought ..... ;)

"Many Bothan spies died to give us this information"

i am on a roll!

I'm sure that if it's the movement plans for the Trident Nuclear submarines then the map rapper will know something dodgy is up.

Alternatively if Doc wanted it that bad he would've shelved out the £50.

The mad rapster could always ask him whats in the document first before sending it back...

Password protected and you forget the password? lol... Then pay for it to get it back. You forgot the password didnt you so? And if it aint your file dont be using cracking tools to open it.
