A long time back one of my two 1GB corsair RAM sticks died, and I've only just got around to replacing it. The replacement I got was from Crucial and I just got round to installing it today. I've tried it in all the memory slots (aside from the one already occupied) and each time I get beeps from my motherboard and POST isn't initiated. When I take the new memory out it works fine again.

I tried taking my old memory out and putting the new memory in on its own, and I still got the same error. I'm guessing this is a no-brainer, but I wanted to check before I go through the hassle of returning it. Is it bad?

Edit: Also, I read that you need to install RAM in matching pairs. Does this just mean that you need to install the same type of RAM in pairs, or that the actual brand needs to be exactly the same?

the first lot of RAM worked fine but then stopped working. When it stopped I tested it and stuff, and it was definitely the RAM that went wrong. With this one I tried the new RAM in all the slots and nothing worked, but when I put the old RAM back in it started working again, so I think it must just be two lots of dodgy RAM rather than the mobo.

I looked at the BIOS, but I couldn't see anything that I might have turned off there.
