Argh, laptop help needed!

She has a Thinkpad- IMHO, once you've had one of these, you'll never go back to anything else.
They may be a little more expensive than the equivalant spec from some, but they're bombproof and the support is second to none.

Take a look at the current Thinkpad R series, nearly the same as what she has currently and the specs fit the bill nicely :)

Trouble is, she's had nothing but problems with the thinkpad, usb's broke, touchpad stopped working, fan died, wireless stopped working, she really doesn't want another one...on the support front, she was just messed around time and time again, each time something went wrong she ended up paying herself.

So peeps, any other suggestions :)

Sounds unlucky. I never hear about anyone having problems with thinkpads. Usual complaints are price and features/spec is usually lower than alternate models. (because you are paying for the build quality.)

The only alternative to a thinkpad for me is a Macbook.

Take a wonder round a PC laptop showroom and just feel/squidge/bend and flex each hinge/keyboard/button and you'll soon get an idea of a laptop suitable for replacement.

Your specs are easy achieveable.

FWIW, you've had a bad experience with one Thinkpad, but I'd seriously reccommend trying again. Speak to IBM (Lenovo now I suppose) directly, and so long as you know what you're talking about then you really shouldn't be getting this level of trouble.

My second choice would be Toshiba business grade laptops, again a little more expensive, but IMHO worth it.

Macbooks I don't rate- I had a MBP, & I've tried various Macbooks belonging to friends, and the build quality is nowhere near top notch & the keyboards are nowhere near as good as IBM/ Toshiba, but they do have a funky backlight :p

I'd always advocate going for a business grade machine over the standard consumer spec, support and build quality is that much better. Sometimes they may not look quite as good, but looks really ought to be a secondary factor.
