Arist - Coffee Machine

Given the failure of another coffee related kickstarter recently I'm well out of this.

Looks interesting, but all of that functionality as a commercial venture at that price point? Hmmm....

the whole syrup cartridge seems like a waste of effort...how much bother is it to pour a little bit out of a bottle?

Bad idea to me although I only skimmed the video.

Yeah different beans and grounds need different pressures/tamping/techniques to pour the best shot. I assume that these use some kind of pod, in which case the coffee in reality wont be any better than nesspreso. If you add your own beans that you grind yourself then it is just as messy/time consuming but is going to be very flaky because it wont really know exactly wht grind/bean you have provided.

So it is basically a nespresso machine with a smartphone app, so what stops anyone else form dong the same? I doubt their is a patent, and if there was it would be easy to circumvent.

It's a good idea as an upmarket nespresso/tassimo. Obviously the quality of the grinder in a $349 unit is going to be sub-optimal for pure espresso drinkers but I don't think that's the market.

Interested to see how far they get. The app and NFC glasses look good.
