Or something else? I'm looking to get an EA survival game in the Steam sale and have my eye on these two. Which would better and has the best community?

I already have Rust and The Long Dark.

Cheers!

Honestly, they are two completely different games, and you own the best survival game in the genre, Rust ,IMO. Ark is going to be brilliant when it's done. There is already so much in the game, but I wouldn't recommend it as it run appallingly. Miscreated on the other hand runs pretty well and looks beautiful, and it has one the nicest atmospheric world i have had the pleasure to play on. I highly recommend it if you have someone to play with, not so much solo, as I find running around by my self gets boring rather quickly.

Check the Miscreated thread on this very forum, it's been quite active lately

Regardless of what GPU you have, ARK is going to run badly, believe me.

I played around 1200 hours on a GTX 670, then 300 or so since getting a GTX 1070 and the difference is minor at best. It's a great game but I'd recommend to EVERYONE that you wait until it's finished, it's such a good game that honestly deserves to be played when it's ready and not the coding mess it is at the minute.

ARK is honestly one of the greatest games I've played in the last 10 years or so. I've put in more hours than I'd like to admit, but I've now put it to one side as I've had enough of their inability to optimise the game properly. Their business model of selling dlc took the biscuit, and I'm not returning until I see performance where it should be on high end PC'S.

Miscreated is a lovely game though, it's pretty hard core with a fantastic world, but there's not all that much to do at present, so playing with friends is a must.

So in a nut shell, Ark is going to be incredible when it's done but it just runs so badly it's not worth bothering with at the moment, sure there are little tricks to do in steam (found on the ark thread) that makes the game run better, but it then looks awful!

Miscreated looks great and runs well, but playing solo is just boring.

Put it on epic or even very high and show us your vids then ;) game performs like a **** we've all seen it.

You get ppl saying that ark runs amazing on their £800 gpu, then post vids to prove it out in the middle of nowhere and record the sky or over water. Go into wooded areas and you'll see fps dips into the low 20s even at 1080p peasant res on the fastest card on the market. That is horrendous performance, there is no arguing that.

Oh I can hit 60 fps on Epic on the coast and other places like that, but actually playing the game in huge bases and in the swamp/snow/redwoods, people with £10k PCs can't handle it without all the ugly sm4 and dx10 prompts which even a mid-range PC shouldn't require. It's Unreal engine ffs. :D

Ark has the ability to be awesome, but at the moment avoid any open PVP servers, as the devs have basically created an environment where it's pretty pointless to play on any of the network servers that are PVP enabled in my opinion (server invasions that are pretty much impossible to defend against, pretty much free for all raiding with no indication who did it unless they kill a pet or you see them).

I probably logged about 150-200 active hours over something like 3-4 months which is the most I've played any game in ages, but it became pointless to continue on an open server (the changes to server transfers and logging meant the server I was went down the drain with a massive increase in griefing, including nonsense raids, then wipes - in the space of about 3 weeks pretty much everyone on the server I was on got forced off, including the alpha tribe as they didn't have enough people who could be online all day every day).

As has been said the performance of the game is pretty poor unless you turn a lot of options down low, and it has some nasty bugs.

Having said that, one of the best games I've played in years for fun, it's just a shame the dev team don't seem to have learned anything from 20+ years of MMOG's (especially those that require a lot of time to do anything), and have put optimisation at the low end of the priority list.

It sounds like I should wait for Ark to be properly released then really (especially as I don't have hundreds of hours to pour into a game for the sever to then be wiped!). Is there a survival game that doesn't need hundreds of hours of investment or to be played with friends?

I bought Subnautica in the sales (aware that it is a SP survival game) so maybe that will tide me over...

I would just Stick to Rust mate, I love the genre and Rust is my favourite game by far, as long as you play on a server that best fits your play style that is

I haven't played 7 Days To Die very much at all and I picked it up very fast and did quite a abit in it. That could be worth looking at.
