Been playing Arkham Asylum for a while now and for some reason its just not grabbed me yet. But i cannot put my finger on why. It looks great, story is good, open world layout, multiple ways to do things, stealthy if you want, not too hard but enough of a challenge.

I'm playing mouse and keyboard while i wait for my 360 controller to be delivered so maybe thats it, or maybe my head isnt in the right place at the moment.

I wonder if its worrying about not missing the collectables thats doing it, making it more of a chore, but then i dont want to miss out on any upgrades.

I know its fantastic and reviewers i rate all score it highly as does a good gamer friends of mine.

It's better on 360 pad for sure.

You retrace your steps through most of the areas multiple times so dont worry about the collectibles to begin with. Especially as a good number of them aren't actually accessible until you unlock the tech later in the game.

For the first few hours just enjoy the stealth and fighting systems. Make sure you spent plenty of time dropping goons off gargoyles and you'll have a whale of a time.

Hey,

How long have you spent in it? I found playing with the keyboard and mouse no problem... I have to say that I didnt like it untill a few hours into it then it just clicked :)

I found AA was amazing. However, I've tried playing AC a few times and I just can't get into it... I just find it annoying. :(

Don't bother with the collectibles and joker stuff. The storyline is good enough and you'll unlock all the stuff as you progress through the game anyway, no need to rush.

Its built around the 360 gamepad (wireless is best) but can take 2-3 hours before you start to get into it & once completed you can go back & do all the collectibles as several reveal hidden locations/puzzles most are basic but you need Batman to be almost fully upgraded to solve many of these.

BAA is one of the best games in recent years but takes time to get into & you also have the 24 combat & 24 predator challenges to complete which are only unlocked by collectibles gathering/puzzling solving in the story missions. All in there is around 50-100 hours content depending on player skill with the challenges ;)

AA was my favorite, AC was ok i didnt enjoy as much as the first....the first for me did everything right and wasnt too big. AC felt too big, sprawling city and far too many collectables that kind of over whelmed me.

You will enjoy as people have said a lot more with a controller.

I personally liked collecting all the stuff, was nice to go hunting for them rather than just doing the main story all the time :) The audio tapes are great, more so if you're a big fan of the villains. Plus the riddles were good fun.

It also meant I could level up quicker :p

Batman: Arkham city was even better IMO, at first I wasn't too sure about it and wasn't too keen on the big open world, but after a hour or so, I absolutely loved it, they just improved upon everything, can't think of one thing, which was worse than AA.

I played with mouse and keyboard just fine, could easily do fights with loads of guys and use all the gadgets successfully without getting hit, although being a 3rd person game like this, I imagine a controller would be better to use.

Hmm, think I might actually play through AA and then AC again :D (probably like my 10th play-through :p :o) I haven't enjoyed any game as much as I did with AA and AC!

Batman Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game, it had some of the best voice acting i'd ever heard in a PC game and was great to start with but soon got even better...

Once you get a few more gadgets, done a few more take downs etc, you'll soon hopefully get into it.

Batman Arkham city was another slow game at the start.. soon got better and as said, improved from Batman AA in so many ways.

Both are excellent games, excellent graphics, excellent stories and the only bad aspect of both these gems is that soon the games are over... : - (

Stick with it.. Worth it.

They were both pretty good, but they did get repetitive quite soon tbh, and were a bit linear for me. I never finished Arkham City though it was quite enjoyable while interest held.

Definitely better on the pad.

You can play through the game getting the collectables as you go. Once you've completed the game you're still free to carry on searching for them afterwards if you want to get then all.

I played with M&K without any issues at all.

Having played this on both xbox and PC I will say that mouse and keyboard allows for better combat, in my opinion anyway.

The thing that kept me hooked were the massive combos that you can pull off.

I played AA on PC with mouse + keyboard, completed it 100% except the stand-alone battle maps (no interest for me).

I played AC on PS3 with gamepad, completed it 100% except for the stand-alone battle maps.

Overall, I'd say the gamepad 'feels' better but it's certainly no great hardship with M+K. I dunno - something about them just made me really enthusiastic to go back each time. If it's not for you it may just be not quite 'your thing'. What's the last game you played where you remember that "can't wait to play again" feeling between sessions?

100% agreed this game works better on PC with k/m, this is not a game that require a pad. But if those feel better using a pad for this type of game then so be it.

You can continue playing after the story, so I would just play through, collecting things as you go, (but not scouring every inch) and then by the end you'll have maps/hints etc that'll make the side tasks easier and more fun to complete. Just enjoy the game and don't worry about the cheevos too much. Much better on pad imo, so that should help when you get it.
