Arma 2

Don't want to turn this into a "will it run" thread, but how will it hack it on a 2.2Ghz C2D (can't overclock at the moment, mobo issues) and a factory overclocked 512mb 3850, on 1400x900 res?

Might have to bring a new PC, or at least GPU, forwards a bit :)

Should do it on low I think.

I can see a lot of people selling their copies once they get past the graphics just because they didnt actually want a strategy game.

Can always play with it like gmod though and mission edit karkland style encounters in one of the towns but I think its multiplayer isnt like that normally

Not sure what to make of this game really. The graphics are odd and take some getting use to and I am still at that stage really.

Well I loved OFP and ArmA, so this should be good for me; hmmm...new graphics card time!?

What is with the guy speaking to you like its recorded messages strung together?

"Engage missile soldier to our front close"

Wtf? just ruined the game for me. Is it all like that?

The speech is poor, but its a very good game... half an hour into it i wanted to send it back but its so much fun.. graphics are amasing aswell, though as you get larger and larger battles you do have to tone them down.. Personally the fluidity of the graphics is amasing, yes it may not do great in screenshots, but the motion, is IMO beter than that of crysis... and yes the voices ingame are ridiculously poor.. The AI isnt poor .. however if you ask a helicopter pilot to land in some trees, he will, and he will die while he's at it... so thats either commitment, or stupidity....

In it's defence, orders tend to be given in a set format and at a set rate where possible, keeping tone and pitch the same. It's all about conditioned responses; that's why soldiers are 'drilled', to react appropriately and quickly to set orders. At least, that's the theory...

So in that case, the order is broken down into 'Action (Engage), Target (missile soldier), Direction / Indication (to our front), Range (close).

The actual voice acting needs work, and stringing together speech needs work and always has done, but anyone who could code that kind of speech system wouldn't be 'wasting' their talents working for a game production house. ;)

Downloaded the demo for the first ARMA and it loads up, but everything is dark, and very, very slow. Almost like it's software rendering. Badly. Really badly.

Going to DL again in case it was a dodgy one.

Couldn't even read the menus and muck with the video settings because it wasn't rendering it properly :(

Here's hopeing DL #2 will be better ;)

I guess they could have used one of those text to speech technologies, some of them are pretty convincing.

Personally, it's not a huge problem, sounds weird, but gets the job done.
