ARMA 2

Probably because there's already roughly 1,000,000 posts on hardware and performance in the big ARMA2 thread.

Is it worth trying? Yep. Will it run smoothly on highest settings? No.

It's a great game even if you have to run at minimum settings. You'll probably be on medium though.

I picked it up recently, i've really enjoyed playing through some co-op missions online. It's a great game if you have the patience for it.

Have a look Here for the official of officialness threads.

Don't expect a bf2/mod warfare clone, its a milsim, and good fun (once you get used to it) Miles and miles of open country, and one bullet in the leg can make you crawl all the way home.

Running a q6600 at 3.2 and a 2gb 4890 i can manage 1920 x 1080 at med/high settings.

Definitely give it a go but don't expect it to play like a FPS just because it uses the same controls - it's a military simulator, and therefore is a lot less forgiving!

A stand-alone expansion is coming out next month (June 29th) called Operation Arrowhead, set in the Middle-East. I'd still get the original ARMA 2 - I can't get enough of roaming through 225 square km of beautiful countryside.

And yes, it runs like a dog but the developers release beta builds regularly between patches which address issues. The latest patch is certainly A LOT smoother than what comes on the DVD, and lots more performance enhancing is rumoured for Operation Arrowhead.

Project Reality are also doing a total conversion mod for Arma2. That should definitely be worth a look at and {SAS} will be hosting a large server for when its released. May as well put this 24 gig dual L5520 Xeon monster to some use :P
