The internet is awash with information about Arma 3 being unplayable in its multiplayer mode...

I was wondering is there any fix for the poor fps in multiplayer as of today?

I get good performance with a mix of high and medium settings in singleplayer scenarios but when I join a multiplayer server...it must be in the single digits the fps makes it unplayable.

So is there anyway round this at the moment? I have read that poor fps is a server setting and you can get good performance on servers that dont use this setting...but I'm yet to come across any server where I get playable fps.

Would like some advice if any is available, assuming everyone else isn't in the same boat as me.

Cheers.

Filter for any of the Ahoy Servers.. Plus another mission named teatime I am sure.. Great FPS. mainly because they were coded fantastically well and great hardware as well..

its pretty new and needs to be refined thats why you wait 6-12 months before playing this game like all BI games. they do get it fairly right in the end.

It's new, and is yet to be properly optimised. That coupled with very badly written missions will result in a complete standstill depending on player count.

For example, one mission I play regularly is Insurgency, based off a mission of the same name from A2, it doesn't exactly run great. However a similar mission, named Counter Insurgency, uses the same scripts for the most part with very small differences, runs flawlessly.

It's a lottery basically, it comes down to how well the mission is written and how the server handles the player load. Typically, most of the Ahoy World severs I've been on have been fine. Tend to find that the "big" mission releases, such as the AW Invade & Annex run fine, but when people start modifying it themselves they throw in a load of crap that's not needed and it cripples the performance.

Does this happen to everyone playing on the server you are playing on?

This happens mainly with poorly optimised missions and servers on inadequate server hardware.

"FPS" is not a "server setting", whoever said that?

A mate had a similar problem on our server when the rest of us had no problems.

His FPS would drop to a low number, oddly, when the sky was in view, if looking at the ground, it was fine :(

Single player was fine though.

He upgraded his rig though and has been fine.

Who is your internet provider and what router are you using?

He was running an AM2+ processor and a Radeon graphics card.
