Hey guys

I have the R9 280X and play on a 2560x1440 monitor, I receive 60fps solid on mods like Ghost Hotel - Battle Royale and smaller game types, 40fps in cities like Kavala on Atlis life (50+ in other cities) and I play on very high/ultra (some are v.high, others ultra) with FXAA x2

What FPS do you guys get on ARMA? I feel like I should be getting more so any ways I could increase FPS?

Thanks, would like to know what the 280x should do at 1440p on different mods and specific scenarios.

remember with arma servers make a massive impact on performance.

one server could be a lagfest. one could be smooth as hell.

thing with arma is regardless of pc spec at some point you will get low fps. its just arma :D

You should count yourself very lucky IMHO. I have a 280x on a 1050p (?!) screen and get low 30's in big towns playing Epoch.

haha! i'm not the one complaining! :D I just wanted to know what people get. 1050P? what are you on about, 1080p you mean?

I get roughly 50fps and 40ish on servers

A big factor is the CPU, I was about to OC mine to increase performance but It seems I already had done it lol.

I have a 3770k now at 4.8Ghz and Crossfire 7970 gigaherz editions (280x) and get appaling from rate.

Playing on a mixture of settings i get just over 60 fps in open spaces during the single player campaign with drops to 40 fps in built up areas, not been on any online servers yet but expecting it to be worse.

My CPU utilisation is ~50% and my GPU utilisation is ~40% across both cards. If I disable Crossfire I get the same performance with ~80 utilisation on 1 card.

Whether I play on low of Full ultra makes little difference to GPU utilisation, the frame rate just drops/rises.

Mostly playing King of the Hill and if I'm on a good server then I'm usually getting 35-40+ fps in combat, but on a not so good servers it'll dip to mid 20's.

Spec = i5 4690k; GTX 970; 8GB; 1920x1080

I just upgraded from an old 6950 card to the GTX 970, and the improvement in ARMA3 was minimal (when playing online).

In-terms of my settings, I'm following the majority of the suggestions in this guide, which helped a lot when I initially applied them...

For the original posters system set this in steam as a launch option on arma 3.

-maxMem=4096-maxVRAM=3072-cpuCount=4-exThreads=4

Based on Your pc having 4GB of ram, If you have more alter this however note that it will be best to keep it at around 70% of your max capacity and you need to keep it in increments of 1024

To set this in steam right click on arma 3 click on properties and the first page that comes up should show a box with " launch options" inside it just copy this. May make a tangible difference to performance. I know it did for me when i first set this up

Hope this helps boost your fps.

Also im getting 40-70 FPS on altis on Breaking point mod on " standard " ( i think its just above low ) settings with a 955 black edition at 3.8ghz & a 6770 gpu.

looking forward to my new upgrade soon :D!

Nope, still rocking a 1050p screen :) Will be getting a 1440p screen within the next few months.

I thought I would try this game recently. My god does my old timer struggle to get a decent frame rate. All standard graphics settings and I'm lucky to see 25fps

The extra params are a placebo effect and do nothing to help performance. Main ways to improve FPS is to play on well made missions.

Is your cpu overclocked? Your graphics card?

My dad's 760@4ghz and overclocked 470 copes at 1080p with 2x AA, a mixture of settings and reduced draw distance.

I only really play KOTH which is one of the worst performing missions due to playercount.

Personally i stick to 50 or 60 player servers,70 at the most.Anything above that and server/game performance gets substantially worse

Spend the vast majority of time at 40+ fps.But arma gonna arma and tank the framerate occasionally at random.

Highly recommend people with powerful gpus set the resolution scale to 125%,noticeably increases the game IQ

I play breaking point aith a 4.8Ghz 2700k and an overclocked 7990.

Neither the CPU or the GPU usage is high in breaking point, typically see 40% on each GPU core even with the AA up. Runs smooth but the engine just doesn't seem able to use the hardware available.

Just ARMA to be honest.

I find it runs really well. It just seems that quite a few public servers have major problems.
That isn't so much the case when using a private server for a group, its another story, smooth with good performance.

Arma 3 like the other's in this series, could all use our hardware better, but its just not going to happen anytime soon.

There are so many variables to take into account for performance.
The biggest issue are public servers with badly made missions.

Dslyecxi gets into it a bit in this video, in short saying where does the line get drawn at expectations vs realisation of what the game can handle, especially since there's no other games(series) of this scope out there to compare it against.
Even a particular weapon modset can ruin FPS because of how detailed the models are compared to what the developers made, then x that by how many players are using it.

Myself, I don't have much performance issues but mostly due to carefully chosen and curated mods and missions. I never play on public servers either, I tried once with a friend but it's awful.
