I am looking at buying arma 3, other than the base game what addons are needed.

Is the game still updated?

Is the game hacked to hell?

Finally what do you think as a guy wanting to mess up some tanks and other arma is this the game to get

Firstly, it's still very much active, it's not about what mods are essential, it's about what do you want to play. Most servers will have the mods install when you try to connect. Secondly, it's a beast to run, even now. So you'll have to settle for medium settings with a base 1080 and i5 if you want 60fps at 1080p.

As said, it's active but you NEED to work with people on the server, playing solo will be very tough and VERY lonely. You'll spawn in and be a good ways away from the combat. You can't just walk to the firefight in most cases, it's miles away and you'll just get bored. Join a Discord server, let them know you're new and they will help. The Arma community is great in that respect.

Lastly, don't be put off by 'hardcore' players, some people play it as a true warfare sim and do radio calls seriously. Let them have their fun, just don't **** them off lol.

Even with a 6core i5 and 1080.

Recommended parts are:
PROCESSOR Intel Core i5-4460
AMD FX 4300 or better
GRAPHICS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series with 2 GB VRAM

It will run, just don't expect max settings. View range is an absolute killer.

Agnes is right. 1000 hours on High with a GTX 1070 and i7-6700k Clocked @ 4.5 GHz. Been relatively stable but have definitely seen bouts of low FPS at times.
