I've been really enjoying this since buying a few days ago. Multiplayer is close to bf2 good i reckon. Single player is driving me insane though! Tried several times to get through "manhattan". Each time so far i've run into some stupid bug thats made me have to revert to the beginning of the mission.

Right now crying after being stuck with no transport in the middle of nowhere as that moron chopper pilot has got himself stuck hovering in the air for some reason. 15 min walk to the nearest town where i get in a crappy lada and then after an infuriating 15 min drive back across the map on the dirt roads i get yet another CTD as soon as i hit the base.

Anyway to the point of the post. My performance in game is bad and despite trying various tweaks and performance mods, nomatter what my in game settings are, my framerate is alway 23-26fps. I could live with this but now the crashes have started as well i need someone who has it running well on a system similar to mine to offer some advice!

Do you have a rig similar to my one in sig? Please let me know what tweaks have got the game running well for you!

I like the singleplayer as well as the mission editor. Theres a load of mods and things i cant use on most MP servers as well.

Anyway the crashing and performance issues still reflect on MP just as much as SP.

MP? Nah, the fun of Arma is creating your own Omaha beach style scenarios with the editor. Personally, I like throwing a few Apocolaypse Now helicopter assaults together or Jarhead sniper missions. Although, I am highly influenced by the recent run of Generation Kill so Recon HumVee patrols thru towns are my in-thing at the moment.

I am having issues getting in to the mp i have joined servers but there just seems to be a lack of excitement to me

With the latest patch and nVidia drivers it seems like i can finally play without crashes or graphics glitches now (8800GTX + Win7 x64 + 8GB RAM was some kind of nightmare combination it seems), but I think the past few months of stress have robbed me of any will to play.
After updating I jumped into my savepoint at the start of Manhatten, was overjoyed that I could finally make some saves without a crash to desktop and the pilot let us down safely (last couple of times I tried this mission one of my squaddies managed to kill himself getting out of the plane) and managed around 20minutes before my Elite Recon Squadmates ran me over in the Hummvee.
So I ragequit and read a book instead.

Having only just got this game is it ok to jump straight into the MP? I figured I might annoy people with not knowing what to do.

Does the game have voice comms?

Most of what I have done so far has been messing around in the editor :p

Most serious Arma players use teamspeak. The elite servers such as those hosted by Tactical Gamer or SimHQ require TS as a prequisite and have rules of conduct during the gameplay. If you visit SimHQ.com and look at their screenshots forum, they have a lot of fun playing MP missions created by one of their main members. Only problem is that they play early hours of the morning.
