Seems the website has gone live http://www.arma2.com/ :D

Quite looking forward to this, just hoping it's a bit more optimised first time round, rather than having to wait for patches etc. And hoping it's not dumbed down too much as it's going to be coming to consoles too.

Website hasn't got much on it yet either, just downloading the Press Pack, 101MB of PDFs and Images :D. Looks awesome so far hehe.

Up for a Q1 2009 release at the moment.

from what I'm seeing in the videos coming out of GC its looking okay, but its looking like what arma 1 should have been.

They have improved the AI but I'll believe that when I see it first hand. They have got some decent vehicles in for the marines, including the LAV, AAV and UH-1N Twin Huey. The aircraft cockpits have all been improved but they don't add much new functionality to the vehicles (no working mounted camera on the aircraft that should really have them, proper flight physics or proper tank fire control systems).

The new land and setting looks great, the one thing they need to get completely right is the AI, everything else can be fixed and modded by the community, without the AI it will just be crap.

Just give me an AI that lets me take a few squads of soldiers and command them properly, so as soon as I send squad A off to some place to cover squad B they work as a team and use formations and half-proper tactics etc.

I got my money out of ArmA and sold it on, but it could have been such a better game, I never played single player because the campaign and AI were absolute crap.

Oh and hopefully the marines can afford bullet proof glass for their HMMWVs, the army from ArmA couldn't.

Failing all that, OFP2 is looking half decent, but we'll see.

That was one of my biggest irritations with the original ARMA, the rather poor imitation of flight. The worst aspect was the turning radius of the helicopters, especially the MH-6/AH-6 Little Birds, they just didn't turn properly at all. Even at low speeds, rudder pedal input was ridiculously ineffective. And the whole throttle modelling was totally out of canter too. Either full power or full reverse, even using my Saitek X-52, it was the same.

IMHO, perhaps it'd be better to release a "core" game with properly implemented ground vehicles and infantry weapons, leaving the aircraft to AI at 1st, then release the aircraft later as an expansion pack after they'd done a proper job modelling them.

I installed it last night, can't get it to even load!!! I think its some compatibility issues it has with Vista and over 4Gb RAM for some reason. Even with the patches it still didn't work. It wasn;t upto much though. Pre ordered both Dragon Rising and Arma 2 .

Try the 1.16 Beta patch its supposed to fix the 4G issue with certain systems

It seems a bit unnatural to me that you have to turn away from the screen to turn.. but still look at the screen to see where you've turned too? :S

It becomes very very natural after about an hour. A little twitch of your head moves it a much bigger distance on-screen so youre never really looking away. Think of it like using the mouse - you dont actually have to move the mouse behind you to look 180 right? Pretty soon you do it so naturally whilst other are messing with hat switches and buttons for leaning... youre just twitching your head slightly.
