I fancy a new FPS game and fancied something a bit more realistic than COD, heard Arma armed assault was supposed to be like the original Operation Flashpoint which i really enjoyed, however i've heard a lot on this forum that its a really bad game, but have read other people saying its good as long as your patch it. So was just wondering if its worth buying or not, or has anyone got any better suggestions(not CSS) ;)

It's nothing like Operation Flashpoint, it's quite unfinished, unrefined, buggy and quirky product which you can see, was planned as great game concept, but became some sort of premature frankenstein of new ideas, on old templates, with half finished engine. Requires a lot of patience, strong will and quite often understanding of game programming and debugging process. In gaming world it is to other combat simulations what Solaris is to *nix world - runs like es, it's quirky and buggy as es, it's heavy handed as es, but looks just too tempting for everyone not to try it.

£1 bargain bin game. It's only fair.

Its almost more of a tool kit than a game i spose but the last couple of patches have really moved things on. I definately think its worth buying, some of the community developed mods like Evolution are worth the price on their own.
It seems to split flashpoint fans 50/50 but i loved that game and in many ways this is as good if not better.

It's definately worth buying now, especially with the last patch that was out, it runs great on the last few systems I've tried and with downloadable missions and co-op play, it's great.
Still looks great also. :)

I found the graphics slow and buggy at the best of times and the ai was predictable, as much in that as soon as they saw you , you were dead! haha. Mine went on ebay inside 2 months of buying and went back to op fp and bf2.

I really really wanted a good Battlefield sim game and the only one I can see that is relatively modern is ARMA so I ordered it online today, cant wait for it to arrive.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is sounding amazing though.

Op Flashpoint 1 seems too old to bother with now, although I do own it. Is it still worth installing?

I played ofp from launch and loved it , the sense of freedom is like no other game. Arma is the same + amazing looking ( if you have a VERY fast rig )

I agree it was a rushed release , but the latest patch 1.14 has made it very playable ( new warfare game mode is like rts meets fps )

A lot of players end up going back to something easy like BF or Cod after trying arma
they find getting constantly owned from over 500m+ meters away disheartening.

Heya Wombraider, Theguy is back now so we can play again :),

and i dont think your servers running a game again..

ALSO, we would like to know how to transport the Mobile HQ with the heli.

If you need to change map or start a new one you need to vote admin

#vote admin <your name>
into text chat will do that

#missions
brings up the mission list

As for picking the mhq up qith the chop you need to hover right over it and a new menu option will open up lower right corner Lift vech or something , hit enter and it will attach.

Hi wombraider! nice to hear from you again. me and ray was playing for bloody ages yesturday. we are gettign quite good at it these days ;) - see you soon!

it's worth it for online play. Single player is less fun.

I help run a server called iGi - usually people about. :) Just remember this isn't your usual FPS, it's not far off a battlefield simulator so if you're running around in the open, expect to have your backside handed to you from nowhere. :)

Played for about 5 minutes earlier.

Movement is clunky, engine seems nice. Going to take some getting used to thats for sure.

Why've y'all not been telling me, eh?

Anywho, I really think that although ARMA was quite buggy, I picked it back off my shelf a few weeks ago and the improvements are fantastic. At least equal to OpFlash on a decent, recent computer, if not as many mods about. [That I've found] =)
<- missed a few above posts.

Yep, certainly more of a toolkit, although it is shaping up nicely with enhanced mods like SLX mod, 6th Sense mod and Johnny's Marines packs. The multiplayer (Warfare and Evo) is much better, if you can find a decent server with teamplay.
