Morning all...
A quiet period in work so thought I'll get this up whilst I can :)

Having played Operation Flashpoint (the old ones - not the new rubbish) to death, I had to try Armed Assault (2) (ArmA 1 wont run on W7).

Arma2 seems very sluggish and just not smooth at all.
Ive turned the settings down to HIGH and AA down a tad - but it's STILL the same :(
Does anyone else experience this? Things look pretty but its just not smooth. It's playable but not enjoyable.

I get an FPS of about 33 on the first benchmark and about 18 (at best) on the second benchmark! Shocking I think!

Can anyone help please? Spec is in my sig. :)

It's a very demanding game, my machines is on its knees when I play it and I had to turn everything pretty much right down. What's the view distance you have set?

Gonna need a bigger boat!

Even with my overclocked system its still not really fast
It is a very demanding game , set viewdistance to 1200meters and lower
setttings a tad see what FPS you get , the postprocessing settings also
hammers performance a bit.

Cheers for the replies so far chaps :)
My ViewDistance is set to the default - not sure what that is as I'm in work at the moment.
I'll try turning off AA and PP effects when I get home this evening.

Is it really that demanding that modern systems (i5 and a HD5850) can't handle it at full whack? :( Disappointing.
Not to mention the port processing effects are quite annoying too!
What you mena neoboy?

PS: My res is 1920x1080 btw :)

Ground detail is very consuming, session I play at with 60+ people most people often complain about it so have it turned off server side.

That and AI can see/shoot you through all the ground stuff.

Even with 100fps (I got an average of 56fps with all settings maxed out at 2048x) the game still felt sluggish and laggy - even changing the settings that affected head bob and aiming - it was horrendous before that - it still felt nasty. Some people don't seem to notice it but theres a deffinate delay on input - I played it on a variety of systems to make sure. It seems slightly better on ATI 5 series cards but still feels crap.

EDIT: I think the game simulates head turning - rather than a direct 1:1 input ratio - theres a good reason why other games DON'T do this... same as theres a good reason most sensible games don't implement view/run bob... they are things the brain/eye cancel out in real life so simulating them without the associtated physical input makes NO sense.

Arma 2 runs fine on my system:

E8500 O/C to just 3600mhz, GTX 280 SC, 4 Gigs DDR2 and W7.

Display res is 1920x1200.

Just turn off AA and post processing. View distance settings have no real effect on my system.

Well I've turned off Post Processing and AA totally (DISABLED in-game)
I've knocked the Head Bob OFF. This did my head in (excuse the pun :D )
Everything seems to run MUCH better now! It's not perfect, but definitely an improvement on what it was before.
Cheers guys :)

get the ACE2 mod, its a MUST also try out WarFX particals mod and JTDsmoke mod. find them on armaholic.

most servers now are running the ACE2 mod. and online play with teamspeak is just awesome. especially if you find a good server. i play with a realism unit atm and its fantastic. :)

Am yet to play it online - always found waiting in the lobby on the old Operation Flashpoint too time consuming.
May try it again - i made a cracking deathmatch map!
Can you give me a brief outline as to what they are please jak?
They're blocked in work :(

does the i5 have hyperthreading? if so try turning it off.... cos on my i7 arma was sluggish and seemed to lag from input to movement but then disabled HT and all was well :D

No HT on the i5 - can't see personally how it would cause such a flaw.
Like I said, I turned AA and PP effects off and all is well. :)
