Armed and Dangerous won't start due to it wanting to install directx 9b!!

I installed the game fine, but everytime i click Play it asks if i want to update to directx 9b. If i click no i do not want to update, it just doesn't start the game. If i click yes, it says it installed successfully and then the game just doesn't want to start.

Any ideas what i can do to solve this please?

Hehe, I had this problem too. I take it you got it on the cheap as well?

If you navigate to your A&D install directory, there's a folder called GameData. Go into it, and scroll to the bottom. You'll see a file called game.exe. Directly run that file and the game will launch, rather than opening that menu which then triggers the unbeatable directx update thingy.

I came across something else with this game: movement and animation speed is frame-based. I don't know who made that dumb decision, but on my PC it means the game runs insanely fast (I can sprint like a looney!). The best solution to this is to force on vsync in the drivers as that caps the frame rate (and therefore speed) to your refresh rate.

Enjoy the game mate, it's pretty fun and extremely funny!

Yeah I've seen this before in a few games (especially older ones).

Area 51 (a 2005 game) has an annoying bug whereby if the framerate is over ~100fps the jump key often doesn't work!
