Armed police mistake Lara Croft for gunman!!

"quickly the street was cordoned off and a team of armed officers burst through Mr Williams's back door."

Made me smile :D

Can't fault them at all for taking action, but I'm curious to know why they charged and detained him.

This story sounds very familiar to one that was around some time ago though. Sounds like it's just been dug up for no reason.

would that be classed as wasting police time as it was a compete hoax, so shouldn't the person who reported the incident recieve some sort of criminal action, or will it be the person who had the cut out

no-one reported it, the police saw the silhouette from the street outside and stormed in.

Being from Canada, I find this country's law enforcement pathetic.
From watching the police shows here, I can steal a car, almost kill a few people and then end my run by crashing into a couple police cars and I'll get a suspended sentence and loose my license for a bit.
However, if I have a Lara Croft mannequin in my window, I'll be arrested and immediately placed behind bars. Go figure.

i agree with you 100%, my uncle was attacked by a gang of about 5 lads about 10 years ago, called the police ...... 15 minutes later, he was arrested for drink driving, fair enough he was over the limit but he drove away for good reason, he was gettin attacked!, he ended up with a 3 inch scar across his face, a concussion and a 1 year driving ban, nothing happened to the gang the police just took their names, typical no tolerance policing

The police don't decide what sentence someone receives, so direct your complaints elsewhere.

And if you're going to mention Canada, lets not forget that Canadian police used a Taser on a man when it was clearly inappropriate to do so, which resulted in his death.

Instead of feeling a bit embarrassed and apologetic, as you would do, police then chucked Mr. Williams in a cell for 13 hours and charged him with an expected firearms offence (and why not add tomb robbing as well?). That's your tax money at work, there, people.

What a bunch of idiots, mistaking a mannequin for an armed&dangerous guy.

All they saw was a silhouette. Considering it's Manchester, they're going to treat any suspected firearms offences as serious.

As I said, can't really see why they treated him the way they did after the incident, but their initial response can't really be faulted. Nobody got hurt.

Fair enough about thinking it was someone armed in the house. But how the hell can they arrest and detain him, muppets.

so what you're saying is if you want to own an illegal firearm stick an silhouette of someone holding a gun in the window that way if you're noticed they will just see the cutout and leave without further investigation?

Best to search and make sure it is what was seen.
