Just passed my ADSC (Army development and selection center) so if anyone has theirs coming up please feel free to pop any questions in here and I will answer as best as I can about the 2 days :D.

I went to Glencourse in scotland and I am set on joining the REME as an armourer.

i did it about 5 years ago, if its the same as then it involved team building tasks 6 in the morning, 1.5 mile run (paratroopers had to run it in no more then 7 minutes if i remember), then lifting them bar things up and down as many reps in whatever minutes, usual situps, pull your chin above the bar stuff.

i passed mine, but my girlfriend wanted me to stay. ive always thought what if i did, but now i dont think its worth it the way our troops are treat, footballers seem to be treat better nowadays.

i went for RAC (royal armoured core at the time).

congrats anyway mate ;)

Congratulations. Maybe give us a run down of what they put you through?

Strength tests, team building exercises, 1.5 mile run, lots of speeches / presentations, maths test (for the trades), test on how you absorb information (grenade test as its known), icebreaker (speech about yourself infront of the other guys)

:D

thats about it. over a day and a half.

i passed mine back in april, i go Catterick on the 4th of october to start my basic :)

the Physical training session (PT) was very tough, lasted for about 20-30minutes, continuously running, then dropping and doing 10 pressups 10 starjumps, 10 knee jumps, some people couldnt even do 10 pressups never mind doing about 10 sets of them, people were dying on the spot, including myself :p

the Icebreaker was the most nervous ive ever been, im not good being social, so standing up infront of 50 guys and talking about myself, i had turtles head all the way through it :D

the Cpl's are funny as hell, allways taking the pish out of the Seargents and Sir's, he said to us before our interview, You know lads hes gonna want you clean shaven, thats because they love little boys.

the grenade test, i cant believe i passed that! all it was, was a 5 minute slideshow, you got no reading or revision material, you just had to absorb this info in seconds, my memory is like a siv and i remembered everthing, its suprising what you remember when you actualy want to remember it.

best day of my life when he said i passed though, ive applied 4 times defered 3 times, its taken me 3 years, had 2 operations just to get in, long journey.

We didn't do the gym session or the bit where you throw the grenade. We did do the grenade test which was easy as he left the bloody room so basically everyone just turned to each other and gave them the answers...

The TST "techincal selection test" (maths test) was a joke, for armourer you have to get 16 / 55 on a multiple choice exam with 4 choices per question... work the probability on that out.. I got 49 / 55, it's even lower than GCSE maths.

First time this was, still hasn't really sunk in, except when he first said you have passed as I was sure I failed and literally could not speak.

well you were told before you went, its all best effort, apart from the run, all you have to do is basicaly do the 1.5mile in your own time, and not be 'too' bad on the other activities, you obviously have to pass the interview aswell, i think only about 10 people failed when i went

I remember when i done mine, i was so chuffed. Basically if you want to pass you will, the only way you wont is if you dont care, just give it 100% and you'll do fine.

if you even stopped on the run, they said you would instantly fail and would send you home, dont know if thats the same now or not but i remember a few people were breathless before they even did half a mile :p

I stopped on the run in full sight of one of the pti's for a good 5/6 seconds.

edit - I got 12:45 on the day, that was after running round like a lunatic on the team building tasks.
