Hi, im about to purchase Battlefield 2 because i like the look of the whole online gaming scene it has with tanks and helicopters etc.

But somone suggested i wait for COD4? Will this have the same atmosphere with tanks+helicopters on big maps fighting each other etc?

Basically should i go out and buy Battlefield 2 or wait for Call of Duty 4?

Thanks, Ben.

CoD4 doesnt have tanks or helicopters or big maps as far as I know. Different sort of game online really. Not sure how big BF2 is now, Quake Wars might be worth a try if you like that sort of thing as well.

I have bf2 and liked it for about 3 months then got bored of bf2 vanilla. However the project reality mod is awesome if you like teamwork. So with all the mods it gives bf2 a much longer lifespan.

COD4 has far far better graphics and prefer the gameplay in it (judging from the demo anyway). Also theres always crysis....

Get BF2, then also wait for CoD4 :) bf2 should not be a game you don't have

BF2 still has hundreds of servers with plenty of people still, on! I've had it for well over a year now and i still like it! Occasionally you get a tad bored of it so you play tf2 for a while, but you always go back for a game :)

Thats correct but you just stick something at the end of the shortcut and TADA!

Widescreen.

Ive known this for ages, but im sure there was a thread a few days ago where someone had instructions.

So it is possible to play it in widescreen?

BF2 is an awesome game, nothing compares to it. It has vast open maps that give freedom to do what you like. With many different player classes, theres always different tactics you can do, making each game different. Its a good laugh and can be rewarding if you manage to create a good squad. You should beable to pick it up cheap nowadays, so you can afford both bf2 and cod4 ;)

I resurrected a thread a few days ago but it quickly fell off the page.

This is probably the only occasion ever where you shouldn't just use widescreengamingforum.com as they don't seem to have updated the BF entry with this new correct widescreen tool. The command line method cuts some of your image away, where as this tool gives you that image back plus hor+ (a recent update fixed a serious stuttering bug).

Click for tool

Oh and get BF2! Won't regret it.

I downloaded that tool but i still cant find an option for 1680x1050

You have to use the old command line to select your resolution, same as before. So it would be:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Now open that tool, select the game, chose aspect ratio (16:10), leave the slider and then run the game. Once in game press ; and hey presto, you have a correct field of vision.

Didnt EA wreck BF2 with one of their patches? i remember one of my online gaming community members making that point ages ago

Some people think so, i think the lack of patches and lack of listening to what players want wrecked it, still fun though, although it is a nightmare to get into a server.

In CSS you just grab a server, maybe wait a while while u download sounds, then your playing.

In BF2, youve got to fight your way through the buggy slow server browser, then find a server that isnt 24/7 Karkand, then wait an age for it to load, then chance your luck as to whether your going to get:

a.) Lost Connection to server straight away
b.) A few mins of play before you get connection probs then it drops back to browser.
c.) A good round ruined half way through by losing connection to server
d.) Being Tked for a jet/no reason every 5 mins
e.) Getting in a good squad and having the best 30 mins-1 hour youll ever have, until it happend again!! (Which it rarely does)
