So guys and girls i have around £1500 to spend on a new system.

I don't need a monitor, mouse and mouse mat.

The idea is very powerful but quiet, but also as cheap as possible. If i don't need it, i don't want it.

Main purpose for the system will be max settings gaming.

Water cooling would be nice, if possible.

Cheers.

Roccat Isku

Corsair Vengeance 1500 Dolby 7.1

Thoughts?

Sorry yeah i need a O/S and i don't want SLI.

Would much prefer a 4gb GTX 680 to make it 2 year future proof if possible.

That is looking pretty sweet!! Appreciate the effort you have put into it. Would that rating PSU be ok for that rig? I have every intention of overclocking it.

And what about the performance of the 7970 v 680, overclocked 7970 has comparable performance, but once you OC the 680 it just burns away.

Appreciate your help.

the whole system overclocked would probably hit 400w, 450w absolute max i estimate. and that's only when you are stressing the system at 100% gpu and cpu load (which is rare irl outside of prime95 and progs specifically meant to stress the system)
if you want to be extra safe, get the antec 620w instead. but 520 is fine.
comparison of an oc 7970 vs and oc gtx670:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/618?vs=555
(i know it says 7970 ghz edition and gtx 680, but the performance is similar to what an oc vanilla 7970 and oc gtx670 can do)
an oc gtx680 would be about 5% faster than the oc gtx670

Revised my list:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
D14
Corsair Obsidian 650D
MSI Z77A-GD65
Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD
Corsair Professional Series AX650
Corsair Vengeance 1500 Dolby 7.1
Roccat Isku Illuminated Gaming Keyboard
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4Gb DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
LG CH10LS28 BD-ROM 10x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive

Graphics card isn't on the list as i'm still unsure.

d14 is good, but for the price, the phanteks or the silver arrow sb-e are way better
rather get the sammy 830 or crucial m4 or intel 330 rather than the force gt
treehugger hdd are rarely any good. and you have the lag time when they have to spin up before it can access data.
that ram is overkill aka waste of money spending so much on the ram

The 670 is much better value for money than the 680, the performance difference is very little, with the money saved with the 670 you could get another SSD for example. What resolution are you playing at? Because you won't need 4Gb Vram for a single 1920x1080 screen.

Yeah i've been doing some further digging.

The Phanteks beats the Noctua by a couple of degrees, so i've added that.

I've also checked the anandtech review comparison tool and it shows the Samsung 830 128gb as being the best, so i've gone with that.

The hard drive i'm having a hard time choosing, i want a 6gb SATA3, but the Seagates have got terrible reviews around the web. Samsung Spinpoint would be lovely, but there not 6gb.

Would a none treehugger WD drive be a better choice?

Here is the revised list:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
Phanteks PH-TC14PE
Corsair Obsidian 650D
MSI Z77A-GD65
Samsung 128GB SSD 830
Corsair Professional Series AX650
Corsair Vengeance 1500 Dolby 7.1
Roccat Isku Illuminated Gaming Keyboard
Unknown storage drive (must be 6gb SATA3)
8GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline Ridgeback
Samsung SH-S222BB/RSMS DVD drive

Minus a graphics card.

Whats the headphones and keyboard like? Anyone have any experience with them?
