Hello everyone,

doing a build for my mate, already have case,cd drive, os keyboard etc
budget about 800 quid somewhat flexible, defintely a beast gpu that will beast out all the decent games
was thinking something along of 4760k, z87, usual 8gb at 1600-2133, and 128 ssd
but need a little help with best GPU as well as MOBO going for black/white theme with switch 810

tempted to go for amd not intel but not sure about which 1 etc

Hi Marky,

Have you seen the mods with the Z87 Asus Sabretooth motherboard, where its "TUF" armour is coated with white Plastidip?

Mobo is a bit expensive though. And white GPU's are too. So it wouldn't be bang for buck to mess around with that.

You could still have a more or less black mobo with white RAM, and if the GPU has a backplate it could be painted white (which actually looks nicer than an exposed PCB in white imo). What I'm not sure about is how the paint might affect cooling. Actual paint would likely void warranty, but Plastidip can just be peeled off if you no longer want it.

The nice thing about a black and white build as well, is that it's perfect for the NZXT Hue, because you can set the colour to anything you like without it clashing, or just use white colour if/when preferred.

Just shooting ideas. May shoot a basket too at you along with everyone else who does. ::)

Just go with what you said, cheap 8GB, 4670k, ssd, etc.. as for GPU ask your friend does he like bf4? well then tell him he will love bf4 with an r9 280x (or higher)
also what is his monitor? I'm guessing 1080p? if its higher res than 1920 x 1080 you're going to want CF 280x or 290+

amd is better GPU terms IMO because they double up as better mining gear and have priority mantle support

also.. why are you guy posting at like 3:30AM? lol could ask my self that just being product post midnight :D got any tips for staying up even later? need to finish work but cant find the... energy

how does this look, random basket, well i had something similar in mind, but im not sure which components are reliable the white/black theme is not that important just need a good rig :)

i already got case its switch 810 white one :)
also have like fans and **** just need
cpu,gpu,ssd,ram,mobo
squeezing the budget here

ah right..

you got a proper heatsink /cooling setup for the i5? i'll let someone else help you as staring at furmark to check for artifacts hurts your eyes

hmmm i have a h100i lying around but it doesnt work properly so im guessing i should get a new one, what did you have in mind? few options

the bigger the case the better the heatsink... best air setup is alpenfohn k2. h100i is good albeit a little bit louder, performs better than the k2 though. why dont you RMA the corsair? they come with 5yrs warranty

Just to get it straight - you've already bought the case too, and you still have around £800 to spare? Do you already have a HDD as well?

i got a spare 250gb lying around i need an ssd but might pick up anotehr 1tb along the way perhaps soon and case got recovered from one of my old rigs :)

oh really I wasnt sure on the warrantly, will deffo look into that, cheers for that mate

your welcome.

i love ocuk member mentality £850 is "within a £800 budget" and "950 is a bit over" lol.

if you really want a white setup its gonna get expensive to get the right components and depending on what case you have some of them arent gonna get seen (e.g most psus arent seen on many cases) so you could save cash there but if you dont really care then a full white setup may cost above 800

edit: also warranty is only covered if you did it via a major retailer, such as bnuying the h100i through OcUK then warranty is valid.. if you get it 2nd hand then not so much. trust me if you have more qs

the whole white/black theme was just an idea I would rather get the best parts that could be pink or yellow doesnt matter as long as I get best perfor. per £ :)

hahha lee certainly can because i'm off for the night! :)

i'll post tommorow. also just google motherboards that you like and find their reviews. chances are most mobos are good, ssds you want samsung for best reliability (because at SSD performance levels 100mb +/- isn't worth sandforce controllers), gpu r9 290x and ram can be literally anything.

for ram seriously do not look at the colour scheme!!! at all!!! mobos and ram offer like 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000005fps in gaming difference and therefore if you like some of the features (e.g mobos have SATA 3 over SATA2) then get it for those reasons and for ram just get whatever you like.

tests and benchmarks show that that silly crazy mhz speeds and xmp stock 1600mhz have like 0.5fps between them (at most, and thats at like crazy resolution).. i would try and find the link but ocuk had an anouncement thread for some companies RAM with a comparison graph.. it was basically a huge fail because the graph was zoomed in so far for an extra £100 in RAM you could get 0.5fps difference as timings dont matert
