Hi,

My HP storageworks ek1502 arrived today... I can't find anything on the net about them.. and as I have never used an array before....HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO! :L

So:

Could someone help me with what/how to use the EMU (environmental monitoring unit)
Tell me which modules are compatible with this array (looking for an Ultra320 Module)
Point me to any manuals/resources regarding this array

Cheers

Ali

not sure, could be the only model number i have is ek1502... from what i can see the part number is: 3882Q029 but google brings up **** all with that :/

EDIT: looking at that PDF doesn't look like it it :/

also, what cable do i need for this connector? I have the same connector on the server

cheers :)

if the connector is the same on both ends you need an ultra-320 VHDCI-VHDCI cable. I've searched OCUK but cannot see that they sell them, however a quick search on google will show you where you can get one from...

not wanting to push you off somewhere else, but it may be worth asking your questions on the HP forums for the device as well

When I have worked with these types of enclosures it is basically a massive disk cage that will accomodate loads of disks. It attaches onto a RAID controller and you use the RAID BIOS to configure your volumes

looks like you got a HD68 to HD68 as #Chri5# says. You need a VHDCI to HD68 which is the one you are looking at.

Cheers

sorry, I mis-read your post. If they are both the same (external SCSI connector and Array connector) then yes you will need a VHDCI-VHDCI cable.

yep got one :D

the cable fits.

However when i boot up the array and the server, the controller doesn't seem to be able to *see* the array :(

It doesn't detect any HDD's that are in the array, or anything :(

what do i need to do? I assumed I just had to plug it in and boot.....?

cheers

On boot up you need to go into the RAID controllers configuration and create arrays. You can also do this normally within windows if you have installed the HPSIM. You won't see raw drives in disk management, but may see them in device management without configuring the arrays.

i know, i went into the raid controllers configuration, and there were no disks listed there from the array. The only disk listed was the system drive :/

Does this mean that ARRAY is broken? :(

Also as its an HP array, would it need to be an HP controller?

I think maybe the terms are getting mixed up here. An Array is a collection of disks that operate as one disk. The enclosure you have is just seen as a load of external disks, you create an array using the disks in the enclosure. When I have worked with some systems you have to tell the RAID card that you want to use the internal and external connectors. What is the controller card you are connecting to and I can have a look at the BIOS options to see if I can work it out

ill have a look tomorrow what one of the controllers if tomorrow, but the other one, is this one.

pretty bloody old i know but meh

ta

apologies for the above, really didn't think it would count seeing as it sells mainly old hardware and is us based.... and I don't see why anyone would buy from them :L but yeh meh

will get the controller types soon

However i have managed to connect the enclosure and get it up and running with the disks :) the SCSI controller Module in the enclosure wasn't in properly

still running into a few problems with the disks tho ://

cheers
