Hello everyone

I thought i would get clever and try and copy the appdata across when i upgraded from vista 64 to windows 7 pro but its obviously gone completely wrong!

Since i did it itunes has seen the iphone and will acknowledge the existence of the backups but its hit and miss as to what it will let me do, got fed up of it today and decided to reinstall itunes... well that did not help at all, it saw the iphone briefly and announced that i needed to upgrade the software, let it do that which failed and now its completely bricked it, just wants to connect to itunes all the time! When i try to restore it just fails with various error messages around the 1600 number, the last one was 1611!

I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with it, and i have a backup thats fine if i can just get it to restore! help!

Tom

Completely remove iTunes.
Reinstall iTunes.
Copy the backups to the correct folder.
With the iPhone switched off, hold the Home and Power buttons until it switches on.
Plug it into iTunes and restore.
After restoration it will ask if you want to restore the data from the backup. Say yes.
Shiny iPhone.

I did this when I bricked mine messing around with a Jailbreak a while back. Worked like a charm. It is not guaranteed to work, as the cause of brickage is different.

i did a complete removal of itunes, and removed all the files in the appdata folder to do with itunes, mainly the "apple computer" folders, itunes installed correctly and created new ones, i put the backups back in the backup folder, but i haven't got far enough to be able to use them

Hmm, not sure how to help you then to be honest. Have you tried searching for the error code and seeing how others resolved it?
