Arrgh! - First day as the primary carer!!

I just didn't find it hard work at all tbh. Mostly it was fun and I had plenty of time to get things done.

In fairness I put most of that pressure on myself working in paediatrics it would be rather embarrassing if I had of messed it up and I forgot the advice that I had been giving everyone for years that being: Yes I know the book says that but unfortunately kids don't read the book ...

My GF videos and photos everything too, she even had a video at the weekend of her dropping water bombs out our bathroom window onto our three year old.

He was not impressed and burst into tears, and screamed it wasn't fair.

I got the whole thing on video.

lol post it.

I heard boys are way easier than girls - sleep a lot and way less fussy. I want a boy next please!

My eldest brothers used to stick their ****ty nappies all over their cot when they were toddlers (terrible twins mind) and all I used to do was sleep and eat anything, even tripe.

The biggest problem I had was missing the adult interaction that a work environment provides.

Seriously, play barn - it's better than the supermarket ;)

I share the childcare with my wife (she still does most) and in particular I looked after my kids on Mondays when she was at work. I'm so glad I did as it really strengthened my relationship, particularly with my daughter. We are so close now because I'm not just the guy who walks back in the door in the evenings; I'm the person that helped change their nappies, feed them, spent time teaching them about the world, played with them, etc.

It is certainly hard work but I would highly recommend sharing part of the childcare wherever you can.

Having kids is the best thing in the world :)

lol post it.

Agreed :D

lets hope the internet doesn't archive that post for when he gets on a pc :p

I will change my name to something less trackable like Kenwood when he grows up ;)

That's great! I usually say to my daughter: "Because you've been a very good girl this morning, I'll let you clean your teeth all by yourself." and she thinks it's some kind of treat.

I should have gone down this route, everyday is a battle now.

Sorry for the video again, :o This was the first indication at 18 months my son already had a better memory than me and their brains are like sponges. For months we had been playing with this octopuses in the bath and I was amazed how quick he picked up counting. Then by accident I discovered he could tell me the number without seeing it, 100% of the time without fail. All he see's is the colour and the face on the front but has memorised the number on the back. Because of my dads battle with Altzhiemers I'm pretty fond of this video because it shows reminds me of the complete polar opposites in a growing brain to brain in decline :(

Anyway Phil I can't recommend these bath octopus sets enough, they stick to the side of the bath, teach him numbers and squirt water. We have had hours of fun :)

Well he's fed and watered, and I've just had to change the third dirty nappy of the day already. Nice. Now isn't this typical - my wife wants to see the little guy at lunch today, so has asked me to bring him in. I could not get him settled all morning until right this minute, when I stuck him in his cot for five mos whilst I sorted his changing table out. The one time I didn't want him to drop off, he does. :D

When they get to 12 months I found that the worst. It's hard to get anything done if you go out because you need to get them back for a good sleep. You will be driving home doing your best distraction techniques to stop them falling asleep in the car. While they still nap during the day I find it very limiting where you can go.

That's amazing. My eldest is good with counting and the alphabet that that's something else!

Full credit goes to the Numberjacks, I swear that program brought on his number recongnition massively. Either that or the amount of fish he eats :D
I've done some tests trying to see how he does it by hiding the faces and he still gets it from the colour of the bases and main body colour.

Amazing brains at that age.

Wish me luck guys and gals - wifey's first day back 'in the office' since maternity leave began 6 months ago. I'm going it alone. AAArrghhhh!

How many other chaps here are looking after their babies' whilst the wife/partner goes out to work?

Treasure each moment, they grow up fast. Count your self lucky as well to be able to spend the time you have with your child, some parents through no choice have to work.
