Hyogo, Japan..Botchi! Botchi!
I'm so annoyed at the British Embassy in Japan......we want to register the birth of our second son....not quite the simple task it was for our first son back home, which to some extent I can understand but surely this is overkill...

I need to produce the following documents for them:

1. Japanese hospital birth certificate...Fair enough
2. Japanese family registry showing that he's registered over here...Again fair enough.
3. A copy of our marriage certificate...OK, I can understand this
4. My British passport...OK, to be expected
5. A copy of my full birth certificate....now this is where I'm starting to get a little annoyed, I have the short version but that won't do, it has to be the long version  surely the fact that I hold a British passport should be enough

and now for the bit that really rankles me.....we have to pay the equivalent of £65 just to register the birth and then another £41 to get a certificate, not additional one mind you if we don't pay the £41 we don't get a certificate.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I just went down the local registrar back home with our marriage certificate and that was that, and the fee was minimal.

Now I can understand that I should expect to pay a little more for registering over here, but over £100 for the same thing....Arrrrgghhhh!

Poor Riku !

I know...it's ridiculous.......

If we don't do this, his Japanese passport will say Riku Joshuwa in the alphabetic version of his name. The only way that they'll spell it differently is if we show them the British birth certificate showing the correct spelling...so I'm fuming at the Japanese authorities too.....but that's another (very) long post....The fact that his plane ticket has his correct spelling means that we have to go down this road.....

Thankfully the passport service over here is pretty quick so sorting it shouldn't be a problem...it's just the hoops we have to jump through to get it sorted that's yanking me at the moment...and the fact that we have to pay £100 for the privilege
