i dunno what to buy!

i have 450 quid burning a hole, i can get a bfg 8800 gtx. i can get a 2900xt, or a 640 gts..........but i dunno which one!

res wise ill be gaming at 1680x1050 though im not sure if the lg lcd (the one with built in tuner) will play higher res' as its not out yet, and i like max graphics.

im basically upgrading my rig ready for dx10 crysis...... so im in a dilemma, will the 2900 turn around and "woop" the gtx in crysis, which is shader based, or will the gtx still be winning ?

id wait but i love spending whilst i have it, and i cant play bf2 dcon maxed out or it goes choppy, and thats all i play atm.

opinions please :p

We will be very fortunate to see Crysis before September tbh, by which time the 2nd Gen dx10 cards should be around, imo wait or get 8800GTS for now.

Yeah never buy a card in preparation for a game that isnt out yet. I remember I spent £320 on a Radeon 9800Pro in prepation for Half Life 2, but it got put back and by the time it came out, you could buy them for £150.

I can play BF2 at 1580x1050 all maxed out, surely dcon doesnt really slow it down that much does it?

on some maps indeed mate.

ive just bought a brand new bfg gtx for £280. im a happy man. however the banks refused my credit card, which is stupid because it worked fine a few hours ago, must be due to bank holiday ? so i got to wait a while to send the paypal.

so hopefully ill be gtx'ing in a weeks time :D

I bought a Radeon 9700 back in Feb 2004 in preparation for STALKER. :)

i have a 2900XT and for the price imo you cant go wrong, you get loads of free steam games which makes up for the extra price over the 640mb,

Plus its more future proof with its AA modes but yeh it is kinda slower with the multisampling AA but on the otherhand the drivers look to be getting the card showing its true colours now so when the final drivers are out it will be right up if not beating the gtx's standards.

thats my oppinion :)

but never buy a card For future games, i just baught this card for the meantime, i will buy what ever will be out at the end of the year and move on from this card.

You didn't get the "pro" versh, its gonna struggle a bit! :p

Overclocked to pro speeds, handles it no bother!! :D

it was Feb 2003 come to think of it, delayed for ages. Only played it for 20 mins and thought it was crap.

If your wanting to buy now, then just get a cheap GTS to tide you over till Crysis gets here, then pick up a 2nd gen card, they are supposedly coming around Octoberish those, but if you can wait then wait. :)
