Why oh why
Ok I installed my new 480gtx this afternoon, no problem.
I removed ATI drivers using control panel uninstall programs, all went well.
Removed my 5870, fitted 480gtx, rebooted all ok, installed Nvidia drivers, great.
System then starts to randomly freeze, ok I thought, could do with a fresh install anyway no problem.
So did a fresh install all is great.
I have windows 7 home premium x64 retail, activated it fine no worries.
Now here is the problem, I purchased an upgrade key from Microsoft using the upgrade option in system properties, (yes I know now).
Anyways my Ultimate key from Microsoft will no longer activate, I have spent ages on the phone to their automated helpline which just says sorry unable to activate please visit microsoft.com/ genuine.
I have spent hours trying to find a phone number to speak to a human, no joy.
Please help, I was under the impression that a retail version on win7 didn't run into problems when reactivating.
I only changed my graphics card arrrrrrrrrhhhh.
Sorry for the rant, need to get this sorted and quick.

Thanks.

You should be able to get through to a human on the Activation line. I am sure there is an option to speak to an operator if the automated system doesn't work. I have had to do this on several ocassions.

Product Activation is really useless and Microsoft is greedy in the market! And that's Microsoft for you! I am using free of charge Linux Mint :) (no activation)

Thank's for the reply's guy's I know it's late.
I'm in the process of trying to find my purchase email from Microsoft to prove I purchased my ultimate upgrade from them.
There no longer seem's to be an option to speak to someone.
Will try again tomorrow, well later after sleep lol.
Will let you know how I get on, just gotta find a phone number to chat to a human lol.

LOL :/ i'm not sure how much use that 480gtx will be in linux.

like SiriusB said, you just need to get through to a real person and they'll sort it for you.

Yes Microsoft are very greedy charging £50 for a product that took millions of investmetn to make.

When it was on pre-release it was dirt cheap, the cheapest I've every paid for an OS, and it's worth every penny IMHO.

I cannot for the life of me find a contact number where I am able to speak to someone.
Not for free anyway, One Microsoft link wanted £46 for tech support.
Gonna try this one 0904 251 0874 which is £1.53 per call.
I'm a bit reluctant in case I don't get to speak to someone.
I had this issue a few years ago with Windows XP, back then it was like SirusB said, you were able to chat to a representative if activation failed.

Yay, finally sorted.
Now looking forward to recieving my phone bill lol.
If its any help to anyone in the future the correct number to call is 08448002400.
The problem was that I had reactivated my key too many times, oop's.
They very kindly gave me a new key after I emailed them my proof of purchase.
Thanks again for everyone's help.

They were really helpful.
The lady I spoke to even called me back to save me some money :D
It seems the old way of getting to chat to someone has changed.
If you try to activate using the phone and it's unsuccessful it just tell's you to visit Microsoft/genuine.
They don't seem to automatically put you through to an operator anymore.
