What a night, pulled the BMW out from under all the building materials tonight as I need it tomorrow, pumped the tyres up a bit brushed off the cob webs, started first time, washed it and took it down the petrol station to fill up.
Rode home and thought hmmm now it's warm I'll check the oil (can't check it cold as it has a dry sump) bugger nothing oooops, so I fashioned a coke bottle into a funnel and put 1/2 ltr in the header tank, big big mistake it instantly filled and then covered the engine in oil
Oh sugar it's dark as well so I get the torch out and the manual and start looking, two drain plugs one for the tank and one for the sump, empty the oil which has the consistency of hot chocolate and is a bit brown, have no oil so pop out for some 10w 40 and get conned by BP, get home and somehow my tray has overflowed onto my drive, nice
Filled with 2 ltrs let it run then flushed it out again still nasty colour, still in the dark with a torch and getting oil everywhere, finally managed to stem the flow of oil and fill it up with 2 ltrs of oil give her another wash with some harsh detergent on the engine then spend the next 20 mins mopping up oil and putting sand / detergent on the drive.
Neighbours are not happy as every time I needed to check the oil I need to start the bike for one minute to let the header tank fill and with an Arrow it's not neighbour friendly really.
All done now though, it's had two washes and now has lovely golden oil ready for tomorrow, just have to be careful it a) doesn't catch fire and 2) theres no oil on the tyres

Moral of the story, if you've got time and you've wintered your bike get it out when you don't need it and have a check / look don't leave it till last minute
