Arsenal & Arsene Wenger

I think that Arsenal fans need to stay patient with Wegner, the man is a genius - give him time and once that stadium is paid off I can really see Arsenal leading the title race.

LOL stay patient?? Almost 8 yrs since a trophy and people are asking us to stay patient with a manager who, quite clearly cant win a trophy even if its handed on a plate to him ie the CC Cup final that we lost to Brum a few yrs back which just proves that Wenger hasnt got the tactical nous to win Arsenal anymore trophies.

Sure we will stay patient with him and watch every season as we get progressively worse and worse.

Problem is that the Arsenal board wont sack him or push him out and neither will he leave. So yes it does look like we are stuck with him for a number of years to come :(

Take away the 40 million more he spends on wages than spurs to finish one place higher than them and he would have been in the black every season regardless of his sales.

Yeah but that's built up over time and based on them having to up wages when they were successful and winning titles. Yeah they have comparable success with Spurs in recent time but Arsenal have been CL entrants and contenders for years where Spurs have not.

Yeah for the odd season Spurs may have done better but to compare their wages the last couple of years isn't really a good comparison. I don't think that will change regardless of which manager they bring in. They cannot compete financially with City or Chelsea and cannot compete in revenue with United. They are going to be battling for fourth no matter what. Anything more will be a bonus.

Everything at Arsenal has become very stale. I think a change is needed now to freshen things up, new ideas etc etc. We've been falling at the same hurdles for the past few seasons now, experiencing the same problems on the pitch.

Thank you Arsene for all the good times but now is the time to bow out. Perhaps next summer when his contract expires. Maybe.

With the way the 'business' is being run, Arsene should get more time, if he was allowed to spend some money, he would be able to deliver the results, the board are interested in making themselves rich and keeping Stan happy and then hoping that Wenger delivers them 4th

Arsene is a competitive man, no one will be hurting more than him at not winning anything

Wenger has already demonstrated that the club has more than enough money to be successful, he's just choosing to squander it by giving huge contracts to average players and squandering transfer budgets on utter tripe. I used to be a big supporter of Arsene but many of his recruitment choices over the past near-decade have been at best questionable and at worst delusional.

The Arsenal board keep saying Wenger has up to 70 million to spend "if he wants to" if he bought quality players and sold the dead weight it would be a different Arsenal, to be a top club u need top players.

Playing devils advocate..

Should he walk or get pushed, who, that is actually available, do you all realistically suggest as a better alternative to Wenger?

That almost never gets any answers in these threads, sadly. They can play at armchair manager. They can tell you all the players that are crap and who should be bought in but never which manager they want or should get.

I personally think this is because it covers their backside if they say for instance they want Moyes and he comes in and plays dreadful football and goes backwards.

Pffft if you believe that then you might as believe that pigs can fly;):p

If we 'actually' had £70mill to spend then god knows why we buy £10mill players who are absolute rubbish ie Gervinho, Santos and a few others.

As for dead weight??, theres plenty of them at Arsenal but sadly we cannot get shot of them other than putting them on loan because no other club would be stupid enough to pay the wages we pay them. So ultimately we are stuck with these inept muppets on long contracts sucking out £60k a week at least.

Tell me who in their god damn minds would sign Santos or Gervinho and pay them £60k a week??...no one other than Wenger and Arsenal. Thats why instead of going forwards, we are going backwards and until Wenger leaves, it will continue along with the prospects of winning no trophies.

I wonder when Wilshere will decide to leave??...wont be too long with the way things are going at Arsenal.

As for which manager we should get??? **** knows, any decent manager would want a lot of money to spend on getting better players into the squad and the way Arsenal are being run ie as a business...theres no chance of that happening.

If the fans want Wenger out then they should start voting with their feet and wallets ie boycott games seeing as we get shafted with stupidly high prices for our games anyhow...again another huge peeve of mine that we can charge so much for a game but yet we cant even compete for trophies or silverware. Its the only way the Arsenal board will get the damn message that we have had enough.

EDIT: Wenger held a 45 min meeting after our FA cup exit, rumours are that we might replace Chessers with Reina :/

The most telling thing about that article is that Wenger is under no pressure from the Arsenal board :/ So yep just carry on getting dumped out of cup comps, struggle to beat teams that are lower than us and take a beating when the better teams come to play us...brilliant absolutely brilliant.

Do you have massive reserves of cash like you said earlier? I can't find anything to say that? Other than how much profit you have to make to pay off the debt?

To be fair no one knows for sure, i was mid rant to be honest ;). The board have stated previously that a massive war chest was available but whether that is just to try and keep the fans happy and let Wenger take the flak i really don't know.

I want him to stay, we still have great young players and there are lots more great young players coming through, Wenger is doing a great job at building a club that will last and stay as one of the top UK clubs for a long time, I'd take that over short term success and throwing money away!!!

Actually I've stated who repeatedly, anyone. Trying and failing is better than not trying and knowing you're going to fail. Wenger will never bring success back to Arsenal, even if by chance we fluked a CL title this year, our football would still be worse, and it will be worse next year, and worse the year after. Fear of something new so sticking with something rubbish because the next manager might be worse, is retarded.

Thats the same reasoning women stick with abusive husbands.

I DON'T CARE if the next manager is crap, I care that we TRY TO DO BETTER, that is all.

Also on the simple metric of Wenger has won multiple titles and the EPL therefore only other managers who have previous won the title can be called "better" is nonsense.

Wenger up to 2004 is simply not the same man managing today, the current manager is crap, I'm fairly sure Clarke could do better, I don't rate AVB but think he could do better, I'd like to give Klopp a go, I don't care about giving an unknown manager a go, theres loads of managers.

There isn't even really such a thing as a good or bad manager, Grant was with West Ham when they got relegated, and with Chelsea when he was within a single game of the EPL and champs league title. The same man at a different club with different players, budget, coaching staff and facilities can end up doing a completely different job.

TRYING to improve is the only thing I'm looking for, 8 years of consistent downhill spiral with Wenger, literally anything is better. Warnock might come in, with real money, put some fighting spirit, some fouling, cheating and a defence and win the title, I'd hate that, but it might work, you never know till you try.

Do you have massive reserves of cash like you said earlier? I can't find anything to say that? Other than how much profit you have to make to pay off the debt?

Arsenal have over 100mil in the bank, on our official finances we've stated that, we have over 250mil of actual debt, and people call it 150mil net debt, because we have 100mil (and a bit) of cash on the clubs accounts.

Warchest is irrelevant, we could have nothing in the club accounts, if the board says you can spend 70mil and are willing to put it in, thats how much you have, you could have 3billion in the club accounts, the board say you can spend 500mil, and they could be lying... its all rather irrelevant.

The only relevant thing is, if you gave Wenger 500mil, he'd get lucky with 100mil of buys and waste the other 400mil.

I think he's going to leave at the end of his contract anyway. I always liked Ancelotti and the stuff Klopp is doing is incredible though I agree he isn't going to want to come to Arsenal as at this moment in time it's nothing but a sideways move, or even a backwards one if you look at their recent history compared to ours. Dragan Stojkovic is a name being banded around as a potential successor and Arsene has bigged him up too, good player but I know nothing about his management career.

LOL Wenger on SSN losing it when asked about the FA cup exit and not fielding a strong team etc.

Good questions that need to be answered and not be met with anger and fustration Wenger;).
