Thats the real reason the US don't want the CPP to claim all the surface for China they want to stake out their claim.. yes I'm cynical. Otherwise its cool.
Burnt ashes apparently, lots of materials that havn't been exposed to oxygen being oxidised

But yeah joking aside "every possible scenario" is a big claim.
However I dearly deeply want this to be a success. I want to be part of a generation where space exploration ignites again.

In the nineteen sixties space (moon) exploration was driven by a JFK speech which promised that American feet would walk on the moon by the end of the decade.
"We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too. "
During the sixties much technology was developed and used for the first time, early computers and digital tools. It was all very experimental. Not much was ordered on the lowest bid basis. Remarkably a lot of stuff worked well and within a decade America went from low orbital trips in Mercury to landing on our satellite rock in Apollo.
Since then with all our supercomputers and knowledge of the solar system man has not walked on any rock other than earth. Our sixteenth century explorers would be disappointed.
