Artic Siliver 5 Instructions

LOL initial precautions ---- dont put it in your mouth

i love the stupid comments they legaly have to put in harhar

also if you are using the stock cooler then you shouldnt need to apply it, however if you have a zalman aeroflowr or tuniq tower etc then you should apply some, but the zalman comes with its amazing zalman stuff, and i believe the tuniq has stuff with it as well, so you dont really need to use it, just keep it incase you ever need to take off your cooler and then replace it again

I have a Tuniq and I cleaned up the CPU and Heatsink block, I even sanded the block for a smooth finish!, applied Artic Silver Formula 5 and my temps are exactly the same as the compound that came with the tuniq!

However the arctic silver F5 does have a nice small nozzel and you get a better application from the AS-F5!

Oops, Quite some time ago I had to put my CPU into a new MoBo when my old one died on me which entailed taking off the heatsink.

I basicaly didn't put any new AS on it as I thought the old hard stuff on it would just re-melt when it was switched back on.

Should it really be cleaned off and new stuff put back on for safety if you take the heatsink off and on it or is it just if the old stuff falls off (Just so i know for future reference)?

I assume with a quad core then, you need to apply 2 lines of AS5, each off centre.
I wouldn't. It depends on the size and shape of the die. I'd have thought it was still square-ish and central, so maybe a larger blob and the standard press and twist to spread it. Just guessing.

According to the instructions on artic's site posted below in the thread - because the die is elongated they recommend a single line of paste across the core vertically. And because the core is in the centre you spread the paste bang on across the centre of the heatspreader. With a quad, you have 2 of these cores beside each other with a small gap in between. They are not located centrally under the heatspreader. So would it not make sense therefore to spead 2 of these lines of paste so that both cores are covered. One line on the left side of the heatspreader, one line on the right. You have twice as much area to cover.

Yeah...it runs really HOT. I will probably reapply the arctic silver because I originally only put the usual drop of the paste in the middle of the heatspreader.

And how are temps? If they're mighty different to Flanno's?

I could not say, Flanno has not posted temps.

I get around 67c-76c on load. (varies from 1 core to another)
