I have a sapphire 5970, and i noticed the other day elements of windows aero would artifact, say if i right clicked or hovered over the task bar.

I was using cat 10.11, but thought it might have been driver related so now running 10.10e hotfix.

Anyone else had similar issues with drivers, all seems fine least for now.....

Im assuming sapphire are good for rma?

I have had the asus 5970 for over a year now, but since 10.11- 10.10e i sometimes get artifacts and the amd display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered pop up message. It happens at random times upon first boot and windows 7 x64 welcome screen and sometimes on a web page. But not had this happen today though. Some who have experienced similar issues have said to increase idle default clock speeds of 157/300 to 400/1000. It never happens whilst i play games like ArmA2 and OA and most other recent titles that will push the 5970. http://devforums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=125055&highlight_key=y http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=122942&highlight_key=y

I have just this minute had the "AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered" message pop up, lol. I don't overclock the 5970, it would overheat and pop for sure.

are u overclocking? are u using afterburner?
Sometimes the root of all problems can be the ati powerplay...

Nope totally stock, it's been quiet for now so i'll leave it as is seeing as it's happy, years of computing have taught me if it's working don't fiddle with it. ;)

Aah actually yes it doesn't artifact at all when gaming, it's usually when surfing hmm as you say kedge might be it underclocking too much, i do sometimes see two instances of the ati driver, yet when i hover over it one goes, so i assume it stopped responding so rebooted itself.

Ati had better start getting it's drivers right, can't be going back to days of old with dodgy drivers, least nvidia got it right most of the time.

As for the psu, it's a 1100w tagan bz, id be very surprised if this faulted, though not impossible of course.

Right now downlocked it manually, when idle it now runs 400/1010mhz lets see where that goes.

The ATI Powerplay power mangement technology automaticaly sets idle speeds of 157/300 on the 5970 i use with one LCD monitor attached, with two LCD monitors the speeds go up 400/1000 because AMDATI say 157/300 is not enough juice to run two monitors with windows 7 with all the bells and whistles and aero enabled.

Are you running w7 64bit? a few seem to have problems with that.
