saw a few artifacts while overclocking my 8800gtx, are these caused by a high memory clock or core, as soon as i saw them i reduced the memory havnt seen them since, my temps didnt peak 80c so hopefully no damage has been done to the card

Yip artifacts are a clear indicator that the card is clocked too high. You won't have caused any damage.

Could be either. You should clock them one at a time so that you know the limit of each.

thanks, i think it was the memory :) most dell users find that they cant clock the memory past 940 stable mine was at 945,ive lowered the memory down to 935 and the core upto 645 no artifacts yet, can you recommend any software that will be able to tell me my max memory, core speed and that can scan for artifacts that wont damage the card during the process

My Core starts being a problem at 636mhz so keep ta 633mhz, Memory at 1007 mhz at the min and still really stable. I do it one notch at a time and play a game for an hour and if no problems try 3d mark, still no problems I knock it up a notch.
